Victory

This is a great WWII POW film in the tradition of The Great Escape and Stalag 17. While lacking some of the wartime action and battle sequences of most WWII films, or great chase scenes of the Great Escape; there is enough wartime context to satisfy the history buff and plenty of thrilling action...

Great all star cast, after watching it, I wanted to watch it again

World War II prisoners of war are challenged to a game of soccer against the Germans. The Third Reich against the prisoners. Of course, the Nazi bastards will cheat only because winning is more important than playing fairly and losing. The picture quality of this DVD is kinda pasty. It does not...

Why do I like this movie?

I can't for the life of me understand why I watch this film whenever it is on TV. Maybe because I adore Michael Caine; or because I am hung up on POW camp movies; or because Stallone is at the peak of his good looks The first time I watched it years ago, I was in disbelief when the POWs chose...

I never was sure...

..., which, players or fans, got the utmost stupidity, but I thank John Huston for showing they're about even. Of course, although here soccer is used for demonstration, but it can apply to any crap filling stadiums with subhumans who shouldn't have any rights whatsoever....

Stallone in Victory

I am a Stallone fan, but I hated his character in this movie. He plays a bit of a jerk -- well. Still, this is a fantastic movie in virtue of the story line. It was inexpensive to own and well worth the money I paid. I will rewatch this one occassionally.

Good, entertaining story

Until reading the reviews here, I thought this movie was British. Why the assumption?, because it's not the usual American jingoism. As such, I found it very entertaining, interesting, and yes, mostly believable. It was also surprising in that it was a good movie, outside of Rocky, with Stallone...

Exciting movie for all

Great family movie for soccer players and fans, and for everyone who like to see the underdog have success. Music is wonderful. Setting is in prisoner of war camp during WWII - subtle messages of values and honor throughout.

"I think we can win this!"

This is the greatest sports movie of all time. Sorry to those of us who loved "Hoosiers." This movie is stirring in so many ways. I saw this movie in the theater back in 1981 as a 10 year old who loved American Soccer, and to this day, it still gives me goosebumps. The soccer part of the...

Heroic sports movie prefigures Stallone's Rocky IV and Get Carter

The tagline reads: "Now is the time for heroes." After all, this is 1981 and America is tired of the defeat of the 70s. No longer will Mel Gibson, in the bleak future portrayed in the 1979 cult classic Mad Max, scoff at his co-star's suggestion that "we, Max, will give them back their heroes."...

"Goal!!!!!!!"

An outstanding WWII-cum-sports movie. Stallone plays his role as an American POW well, Michael Caine as the captain of a British POW football team is superb and the soccer action itself is brilliant, what with Pele, Moore & other soccer greats in the action. The movie was previously released as...
