Revolutionary Road
"A deft, ironic, beautiful novel that deserves to be a classic." ?William Styron
From the moment of its publication in 1961, Revolutionary Road was hailed as a masterpiece of realistic fiction and as the most evocative portrayal of the opulent desolation of the American suburbs. It's the story of Frank and April Wheeler, a bright, beautiful, and talented couple who have lived on the assumption that greatness is only just around the corner. With heartbreaking compassion and remorseless clarity, Richard Yates shows how Frank and April mortgage their spiritual birthright, betraying not only each other, but their best selves.
In his introduction to this edition, novelist Richard Ford pays homage to the lasting influence and enduring power of Revolutionary Road. more

- Excellent book!
This is an excellent book. My fiance and I read this together. We both really enjoyed this and it gave us something else to share. You really get into the characters and they become real to you. Read the book instead of watching the...

- not my cup of tea
I always try to read the book before I see the movie, but after reading this book, I can't bring myself to see the movie. I guess I am just into whiney tableaus of people who hate their life choices. Maybe it is an era thing?

- The grass is always greener...
Richard Yates' novel is in part a commentary on the banal culture of suburbia in America in the 1950's, but it is so much more...while the novel is truly a tragedy, in part because of the repressive American culture of the 1950's, the...

- Good story.
I thought Revolutionary Road was a really good story, but I have to admit, it did depress me. I guess when I think of people in the 50s, I think of them being happy to have survived the war and happy to live in the suburbs. Well, this is...

- Not sure how I feel about this book
After reading this, I felt the same as I did after watching Ordinary People. It's depressing, the characters are for the most part unlikable, at times it seems to drag, but I wanted to know how it ends. Richard Yates is a great writer...
