The Last Dive: A Father and Son's Fatal Descent into the Ocean's Depths

Chris and Chrissy Rouse, an experienced father-and-son scuba diving team, hoped to achieve widespread recognition for their outstanding but controversial diving skills. Obsessed and ambitious, they sought to solve the secrets of a mysterious, undocumented World War II German U-boat that lay under 230 feet of water, only a half-day's mission from New York Harbor. In doing so, they paid the ultimate price in their quest for fame.

Bernie Chowdhury, himself an expert diver and a close friend of the Rouses', explores the thrill-seeking world of deep-sea diving, including its legendary figures, most celebrated triumphs, and gruesome tragedies. By examining the diver's psychology through the complex father-and-son dynamic, Chowdhury illuminates the extreme sport diver's push toward -- and sometimes beyond -- the limits of human endurance.

Great book!

I loved The Last Dive and recommend it to divers and non-divers alike. I am familiar with Chris and Chrissy Rouse from reading other books about U-869 and the Andrea Doria. Bernie Chowdhury's characterization of the father and son is...

This is a gripping book written by local author Bernie Chowdhury

I first read this book while my son was still doing a lot of diving. The book resonated with me as it is as much about the relationship of a father and son as it is about diving. It also is set in the context of the U-Who German...

Much more than just the Rouse's "Last Dive"

"The Last Dive" is a very engaging read that is every bit as much about why people take risks at the edge of human ability (diving, mountain climbing, racing, etc.), their personalities, and their weaknesses, as it is about Chris and...

Alright but...

This book is alright but I read The Last Attempt by Carlos Serra and found that one a whole lot more interesting. It's quite controversial to say the least. It tells the story of a female freediver champion who ended up dying because of...

Duffy

Maybe I shouldn't write my review, because I didn't finish the book, but it just isn't good. This is supposed to be a tragic story of a father and son that lose their life to a sport they thoroughly enjoy, yet all I get from the writing...
