From: Amazon Posted: Nov 04, 2007 Type: User Review liar liar pants on fire

Sadly, Mr. Perkins tries to compensate for his apparent 'shortcomings' in other areas by building an enormous ship. David Kaplan correctly characterizes him as narcissist who lacks the fundamental human trait of compassion for his fellow man (or...

A great read about a fascinting and innovative yacht which merges old and new technology very gracefully. In addition, the author gives the reader great insight into Tom Perkins personality and how he earned his way into owning the Maltese Falcon.

Anyone who sails will love this book. It tells the story of the construction of the largest sailing yacht ever built and the fascinating man who built it. Kaplan writes knowledgeably and clearly. An ideal summer vacation read.

From: Amazon Posted: Jul 09, 2007 Type: User Review The Falcon Flies High

David A. Kaplan has skillfully interwoven the stories of the world's greatest private yacht, its owner Tom Perkins, and of Perkins's Silicon Valley milieu, a subject Kaplan explored well in The Silicon Boys.

As a nonsailor I learned...

From: Amazon Posted: Jul 08, 2007 Type: User Review A Landlubber Writes About The Man Who Built A Very Big Boat.

The write-up for the book leads you to think it's about a wonderful yacht. It's mostly a biography of the builder, Tom Perkins. Kaplan doesn't really like Perkins. And sailboat lovers will be disappointed that there isn't more about the vessel;...
