The soundtrack to a film I'd love to see.

Listening to this majestic re-recording of Phillips' original 1978 TV pilot score, it feels like the soundtrack to an epic, modern-day cinematic reboot of the Battlestar saga, closer to Richard Hatch's vision than the Ron Moore series, which, although OK, just isn't the "real" BSG and never will...

To Be Honest, I Prefer The Original Album, Or The 25th Anniversary Edition

It's amazing to find out how Stu Phillips' music for the original "Battlestar Galactica" has endured in popularity. The main theme has been one of the greatest staples in sci-fi history after "Star Wars". We have the original album from 1978, and 25 years later, we film score collectors have...

Pretty good -- but a bit different

I have mixed feelings about this re-performed version of the original theme music from Battlestar Galactica. I consider myself a diehard fan of both the original shows and also a fan of Stu Phillips in general. Here's my thoughts on this CD.I guess I was most dissapointed by the title track...

Better than the original

It may not be the original soundtrack (it's a studio track, having been done by the Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra in 1999) but unlike the original soundtrack music which I have on old-fashioned vinyl, this is much better sounding with lots better dynamic range than the original. If a new...

An epic score in a grand tradition

The merits of the 70's TV series "Battlestar Galactica" have been debated by science fiction fans for over 20 years. But one issue that is beyond debate is the excellence of Stu Phillips' stirring score for the series' movie-length premiere episode. This is music in the great tradition of the...

I loved it 20 years ago and I still love it now!

I just bought the CD of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack. I love it! I agree with a previous reviewer that there are a few differences between this one and the LP I still have, but all in all I will enjoy this for many years. I have some of the books, and I do look forward to a revival of...

Finally!

This is the music I've been waiting for! I'm especially thrilled that Stu Phillips was able to come back and conduct his own work -- these pieces are his babies, after all.The only thing lacking on this CD is that little piece of intro music you heard at the beginning of every episode over the...

Greatly Revived

While keeping the spirit of the original, Stu Phillips has indeed improved the performance. All of us who enjoyed this classic science-fiction TV series are bound to love this remake of the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack.

Great Performance shows limititations of the original

If you saw the show, you know the music and you'll automatically buy this CD as memorabilia. Stu Phillips tries to elevate his TV music to the level of a John Williams movie score by using the Scottish National Orchestra. It almost works, but not quite. These are epic-scale, grandiose...
