Break No Bones: A Novel
The inspiration for the hit Fox series Bones, Kathy Reichs explores another high-stakes crime from today's headlines-in a case that lands forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan in the middle of a gruesome international scheme. Summoned to South Carolina to fill in for a negligent colleague, Tempe is stuck teaching at a lackluster archeology field school in the ruins of a Native American burial ground on the Charleston shore. But when Tempe stumbles upon a fresh skeleton among the ancient bones, her old friend Emma Rousseau, the local coroner, persuades Tempe to stay on and help with the investigation. When Emma reveals a disturbing secret, it becomes more important than ever for Tempe to help her friend close the case. The body count begins to climb. Tempe follows the trail to a free street clinic with a belligerent staff, a suspicious doctor, and a donor who is a charismatic televangelist. Clues abound in the most unlikely places as Tempe uses her unique knowledge and skills to build her case, even as the local sheriff remains dubious and her own life is threatened.

Tempe Is Better Than Kay!
I had just finished slogging through the last 4 Cornwell books and had decided that I was through with Kay Scarpetta unless there is some drastic change in Cornwell's writing when I read a review in which someone suggested Kathy Reichs' work as a better alternative. A big THANKS to that...

BREAK NO BONES BY KATHY REICHS
I love her books. I find them very informative as well as I really like her characters. I watch Bones on TV. This book had more about her Canadian detective lover. Her relationship with her ex-husband is a hoot.

First and last Tempe
This is my first Kathy Reichs novel. I have a problem with 1st person narratives. One has to love the narrator to put up with her for hundreds of pages. Tempe is fine but not for hundreds of pages, getting into all the petty details that drive me up a wall when reading a mystery. With 3rd person...

Tempe does Charleston
I really enjoy this series, set often in my beloved South (this one is here in the Charleston area) or in Montreal, where I have many happy memories. Reich's got a lot right about Charleston in this book (except for the bit about basements. We don't do basements in Charleston like you do in...

I didn't bother to finish this one!
Humor is not Kathy Reichs's strong point. Try as hard as she might (and she REALLY tried!), Sue Grafton or Janet Evanovich, she is not. The sarcastic sniping she sprinkled into "Break No Bones"--especially between Ryan and the snarky, incredibly un-likeable Pete--was just plain forced. If...

Temperance Brennan-Book vs Temperance Brennan "Bones"
Watched "Bones" on Fox TV. I enjoyed it so I started hunting for the first book in the series. I hate starting in the middle of series books. Once I started reading Reichs and I got over the shock that literary Brennan and TV Brennan are based on Reichs, they are still different. I missed...

Pretty good and worth reading
BREAK NO BONES is definately worth reading as it is a good mystery with good characters and lots of action. Temperance Brennan is at it again, finding bones where they shouldn't be and then becoming a player in a pretty complicated plot. Tempe deals with a county sheriff who is not a typical...

Another Great Story in Kathy Reichs Collection
Once again, we are taken back to the days of yesteryear. Our heroine, Dr. Temperance Brennan (Tempe to her friends) is called on by the Charleston County Coroner (an old friend) to help her sort out a murder. Since the body is mostly bones, our girl - nicknamed Bones - is the person to call....

Typical Reichs, But Still Good
I had avoided Kathy Reichs' books for a while, finding her plots somewhat repetitive and was getting bored with how (to me) unnecessarily complicated Temperance's personal relationships were and yet they were just going in the same circles. So I picked this one up, not sure what to expect. I'm...

decent story... terrible audiobook reader
I listen to a lot of audio books in my daily commute, and as far as the story goes, this one is not bad. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't exactly captivated by it. But the reader of the book... yikes! She is really terrible. She mumbles at times, and just doesn't seem to put much into it. No...
