Break No Bones: A Novel
The inspiration for the hit Fox series Bones, Kathy Reichs explores another high-stakes crime from today's headlines-in a case that lands forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan in the middle of a gruesome international scheme. Summoned to South Carolina to fill in for a negligent colleague, Tempe is stuck teaching at a lackluster archeology field school in the ruins of a Native American burial ground on the Charleston shore. But when Tempe stumbles upon a fresh skeleton among the ancient bones, her old friend Emma Rousseau, the local coroner, persuades Tempe to stay on and help with the investigation. When Emma reveals a disturbing secret, it becomes more important than ever for Tempe to help her friend close the case. The body count begins to climb. Tempe follows the trail to a free street clinic with a belligerent staff, a suspicious doctor, and a donor who is a charismatic televangelist. Clues abound in the most unlikely places as Tempe uses her unique knowledge and skills to build her case, even as the local sheriff remains dubious and her own life is threatened.

- Tempe Is Better Than Kay!
I had just finished slogging through the last 4 Cornwell books and had decided that I was through with Kay Scarpetta unless there is some drastic change in Cornwell's writing when I read a review in which someone suggested Kathy Reichs'...

- BREAK NO BONES BY KATHY REICHS
I love her books. I find them very informative as well as I really like her characters. I watch Bones on TV. This book had more about her Canadian detective lover. Her relationship with her ex-husband is a hoot.

- First and last Tempe
This is my first Kathy Reichs novel. I have a problem with 1st person narratives. One has to love the narrator to put up with her for hundreds of pages. Tempe is fine but not for hundreds of pages, getting into all the petty details...

- Tempe does Charleston
I really enjoy this series, set often in my beloved South (this one is here in the Charleston area) or in Montreal, where I have many happy memories. Reich's got a lot right about Charleston in this book (except for the bit about...

- I didn't bother to finish this one!
Humor is not Kathy Reichs's strong point. Try as hard as she might (and she REALLY tried!), Sue Grafton or Janet Evanovich, she is not. The sarcastic sniping she sprinkled into "Break No Bones"--especially between Ryan and the snarky,...
