Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace . . . One School at a Time
The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban?s backyard Anyone who despairs of the individual?s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan?s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools?especially for girls?that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson?s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

This book gave me a much needed "better" understanding of the Islamic world. With common misconceptions of this religion and region of the world by many of us in the west, this book is a must read. It is only through work of people...

I agree completely with those who found fault with the ghost writer's style of prose, as I repeatedly had to back up to disentangle myself from his laboriously complicated sentences. But I totally agree that this is an extremely...

Lots has been written about this book. With what's going on in Pakistan today, you have to wonder if all the great works this book chronicles are surviving. All I'll say is this is the guy who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize!

- Amazing Story, Flawed Writing
I loved this book, and I could hardly put it down, but I would have loved it more if the authors were better writers, or had a better editor. The flow of the story keeps being interrupted with misplaced modifiers, meandering clauses that...

- interesting topic but BORING book
Compelling read because you want to know what happens (sort of), but it reads like a sales pitch for the organization. Would've worked as a magazine article, but whew! this book is about 200 pages too long. Glad to know Mr. Mortenson...
