The Dance of the Dissident Daughter: A Woman's Journey from Christian Tradition to the Sacred Feminine (Plus)
"I was amazed to find that I had no idea how to unfold my spiritual life in a feminine way. I was surprised, and, in fact, a little terrified, when I found myself in the middle of a feminist spiritual reawakening." ??Sue Monk Kidd For years, Sue Monk Kidd was a conventionally religious woman. Then, in the late 1980s, Kidd experienced an unexpected awakening, and began a journey toward a feminine spirituality. With the exceptional storytelling skills that have helped make her name, author of When the Heart Waits tells her very personal story of the fear, anger, healing, and freedom she experienced on the path toward the wholeness that many women have lost in the church. From a jarring encounter with sexism in a suburban drugstore, to monastery retreats and to rituals in the caves of Crete, she reveals a new level of feminine spiritual consciousness for all women? one that retains a meaningful connection with the "deep song of Christianity," embraces the sacredness of ordinary women's experience, and has the power to transform in the most positive ways every fundamental relationship in a woman's life? her marriage, her career, and her religion. This Plus edition paperback includes a recent interview with the author conducted by the book's editor Michael Maudlin.

Inspired reader
This has been a very inspiring book, and I can't wait to read the next page. Women in my church of all ages have used this book as the basis of a retreat. We had good discussions as the result of it and I hope you do too. I plan to use what I learn in my daily life.

A wonderful book for awakening the Feminine spirit in us all.
This is an inspiring and important book for women, especially women who feel left out of society, religion and politics. The historical information about how women have been cut out of decision making and the church is eye opening and the call to us all to invite ourselves into the dialog of our...

Great document of one woman's spiritual journey.
This book is a must read for any woman. Even non spiritual or non-religious women will learn from it. It delves into the history of women in Christianity; in religions that pre-date Christianity by centuries; and how attitudes about women throughout the millennia are still well entrenched and...

extremely powerful story of a woman's journey to the sacred feminine. Well researched, well written, this book changed my life.
I have purchased about 15 copies of this book to share with friends and women questioning their spirituality. For anyone questioning patriarchy and what happened to honoring mother earth and our feminine power, this is a must read in my opinion. I have had three book clubs to sit in circles of...

Journey to Self-Recognition and Self-Honor
I loved this book because it so closely chronicled my own feelings of distance from patriarchal Christianity except that my journey started when I was 15 and I began to reject the anti-female stories and persuasions of the male teachers at my church's Sunday School. The book is a sensitively,...

Good for women who are oppressed
This was interesting but was not what i expected from the title. I have never read any books by Kidd but she was recommended by serveral people. I think that women who are in an oppressive state in their own faith communities can benefit from this book. It looks at why we allow oppression....

The Dance of the Dissident Daughter
This book literally changed my life. I have read this book into pieces. I would like to say it saved me. I hit a place in my life at 30 years old where everything I knew fell into pieces. During this time a good friend kept telling me to read this, that it was my story. I read it and was...

An Authentic Journey
I picked up this title as one it was a woman's spiritual journey and two I like the author for her other two books - secret life of bees and mermaid chair. I am not a christian woman, and my religion does have a feminine version of God. But no woman is really spared the overwhelming experience of...

This is an IMPORTANT book to read if you want to understand feminism.
Sue Monk Kidd captures the reader with her openness about how she became a feminist, almost by accident. This is a very personal account describing her experience of moving from accepted Christianity to feminism. I found the story fascinating and finished it in only 3 days. For the most part, the...
