Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body (Vintage)
Details on a Major New Discovery included in a New Afterword
Why do we look the way we do? Neil Shubin, the paleontologist and professor of anatomy who co-discovered Tiktaalik, the ?fish with hands,? tells the story of our bodies as you've never heard it before. By examining fossils and DNA, he shows us that our hands actually resemble fish fins, our heads are organized like long-extinct jawless fish, and major parts of our genomes look and function like those of worms and bacteria. Your Inner Fish makes us look at ourselves and our world in an illuminating new light. This is science writing at its finest?enlightening, accessible and told with irresistible enthusiasm. more

- MY ADV BIOLOGY CLASS LIKES IT A LOT!
I don't want to re-state the high encomiums this slim volume has received, but I would like to offer an alternative perspective.I have integrated this book into my "critical readings", ie, non-text material illustrating real-world...

- Fascinating, Captain!
An illuminating and enjoyable read for anyone with an interest in life, the universe, and everything. Combines paleontology and genetics to illustrate how we evolved into the form we have today. You'll never look at a human hand (or a...

- Outstanding. Will open your mind.
Although the author is a bit wordy at times, he does break down the chapers into excellent little conceptual components. The pieces of the evolutionary puzzle are nearly fully in place, and the author lays them out elegantly in general...

- Could have used an Inner Editor
I should confess up front that my not loving this book is partly my own fault. Given Shubin's academic pedigree -- and it is impressive -- I expected the work to be more substantive. That he decided to write for a more general audience...

- Terrible
What a waste. Ok, if you know NOTHING about evolution or palentology, then this book might be acceptable but, otherwise, its a terrible bore. I got half way through and, finding nothing really new or interesting, I could justify...
