Clandestino
The first solo album released by the former frontman of Mano Negra, 'Clandestino' (released in 1998) is an enchanting trip through Latin-flavored world-beat rock, reliant on a potpourri of musical styles from traditional Latin & salsa to dub to rock & roll to French pop to experimental rock to techno. 16 tracks. Lively up yourself
King Sunny Ade meets Pete Seger. I'm unable to maintain a frown when the disk starts spinning. Enriched by what feels like a living room jam session , led by an international ambassador to whom languages are as distinct as he happens to decide they are while he weaves another story. This World...

Holy Guacamole
This CD is like a drug for me - 3 years later I can not stop listening it. The more I listed to it the more I like it. I shared it with a friend who is now hooked on Manu Chao - "His songs make me feel good".

Alienation, dispair, and hope...
There are so many reviews on this recording, but many miss some important points. Yes, this music can be appreciated on purely musical merits.. it's really very good and it grows on you. But it's brilliance lies in his ability to use his own 'foreign-ness' (he's French, singing in Spanish mostly)...

Manu Chao
Very fun to listen to. The deeper that I researched Manu Chao, the more fun the experience. His musical partners (amparanoia) and his background led me to know many other artists and musical styles. Thanks to my friend Patty who intoduced my to Manu Chao.....

Now I Know Why I Studied So Many Languages
This work is a delight for the mind. Themes, concepts, genres, and ideas are spread across its tracks, which overlap and complement each other, constructing a whole which far exceeds the sum of its parts. If a masterpiece upon canvas says a thousand words, then Clandestino is the audio...

World music with a more Latin spin
Manu Chao has been a recent musical introduction for me. I had never even heard of him until I caught his performance at this year's Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Having said that, I was so impressed by his live performance that I was compelled to buy any of his recorded work I could get my...

Happiness Comes in a CD
Why isn't Manu Chao more well-known in the States? He should be! I discovered his music purely by accident and have since learned he is very well-known throughout the world, but rarely comes to the US for touring. He was at San Francisco Civic Center in summer of 2007 and the place was packed. I...

Fluid Enjoyment
This album, in every sense of the word 'album', is great. I saw Manu Chao live in Chicago, Summer of '06, and was blown away. Clandestino was a great introduction to a studio album by Manu Chao for me. The songs link together when listened to on CD that is reminiscent of the way Beatles albums...

First solo work by a genius
Before this, his debut solo album, Manu Chao had already become famous in front of musical troupe Mano Negra. Yet with "Clandestino" Manu Chao showed, like other legendary band leaders before him, the true caliber of his musical genius.Keeping up with politically loaded songs that were so...

Enchanting...
It's like looking at a Monet, enjoying a piece of your favorite fruit in the beach at night, or backpacking through Latin America. Sorry for this explanation, but you just can't put in words the feelings and places this CD can take you to. It's definitely an experience, a compilation of melodies...
