Joy of Cooking: 75th Anniversary Edition - 2006
When the last edition of the Joy of Cooking appeared in 1997, it was a chef-centric, rarified global ingredient kind of moment. And now, 1997 seems very far away. This country is in an economically wobbly, terror-filled time where Americans have kept close to home both literally and figuratively. The 75th Anniversary Edition of the Joy of Cooking -- as it has always done -- speaks to the time it is published into. This Joy has come full circle from 1997 with a huge emphasis on American home cooking. We are not chasing the authentic Oaxacan enchilada here -- we have cheese, chicken, and beef. We have returned the casserole; included slow cooker recipes; restored chapters on jams, jellies, pickles, ice cream, and drinks. There is an eye to economy with expanded discussions on how to get the best out of tougher cuts of meat; the art of leftovers; and keeping household stock. With 500 completely new recipes and hundreds of recipes long edited out of previous editions, this is a brand-new, best-loved Joy of Cooking that rejoices in the cooking of the country that made it the bestselling cookbook of all time -- America. Indispensable Reference

THE JOY OF LOVING
For a wedding gift in 1950, a family friend, an older woman, and the greatest cook I have ever personally known, gave us the JOY OF COOKING. For the inscription she wrote, "May the Joy of Cooking come second only to the Joy of Living, Loving and Sharing!" I learned to cook! I learned to cook...

Needed stonger packing matterial
My book arrived fine, but the package was ripped open due to the poor and flimsy material used. Also it would help if they can provide a routing # so that we know the E.T.A. of our order.

As essential as the stove itself
This is, without a doubt, the most useful tool in my kitchen. Whether I go to it first (knowing I'll quickly find the recipe I need) or last (after finding that other cookbooks don't have what I need at all) or somewhere in between (as a research tool to come up with my own version of a recipe),...

Joy of Cooking cookbook
I already have my mother's edition, as well as my edition. We found this book makes an excellent wedding gift. As an added surprise, and not "just another cookbook(moan)", we intersperse cash money in small bills throughout the book, with memos attached to our favorite Joy recipes.
