When I first heard my friend's PlayStation 3, I could have swore that thing was getting ready for take off. The amount of noise coming out of that thing is a bit ridiculous. And after reading this article on the amount of energy this thing sucks up, I can see why. According to the Australian consumer agency Choice, the PS3 isn't very friendly to your utility bill. The gaming console, when running, sucks up to five times as much more energy than a refrigerator and ten times as much as the Nintendo Wii. How much does that come out to in dollars? About $250 if you keep that baby running all the time. The Xbox 360 isn't that much better, running around 23.57 kWH per week compared to the PS3's 31.74 kWH and the Wii at 2.97 kWH. The PS3 is the right system for me. It combines good game play, a Hi Def DVD player, and web browser / media player. The on-line game play is free and you can still find many PS3 games at a reasonable price if you shop around.

PROS: Sleek, Upconverts my DVDs, Plays all my Blu-ray discs, and can stream photo, video and music from my Vista Ultimate PC. It has a cool photo gallery feature when displaying photos from my SD card.
CONS: Does not support Wireless-N.

PROS: Built in Blu-Ray player, absolutely amazing graphics, online service is free, decent game collection, controllers are rechargeable right out of the box, tons of multimedia options, internet browser built-in, easy-to-navigate digital store.
CONS: Very few 'blockbuster' titles, online service can be shaky at times, have to purchase a bluetooth headset to chat online, most features can't be used in game, downloads take several hours to complete, generally terrible friend system.

PS 3 Prices Are Not Going Down Anytime Soon

If you've been waiting for the Playstation 3 price to come down, it looks like you're going to be waiting a little longer. According to Sony President Ryoji Chubachi, they have "no plans" at this time to lower the price of the gaming console that now sits at $599.99.  Many thought, including me, that they would drop down the price a bit to compete with the Nintendo Wii. Screw it. I'm not going to buy another gaming console. For us poor folk, we can't afford it so I'm going old school. I'm going buy some checkers...
