The Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development Handbook: A Complete K-12 Reference Guide (3rd Edition)
The third edition of this popular handbook brings together theories, ideas, and resources for promoting crosscultural awareness, language development, and academic progress for English learners. It ties together culture and language in a comprehensive format and delves deeply into the educational challenges faced by classroom teachers. Written specifically for the mainstream teacher, the guide clearly shows the effects of cultural differences on learning and presents an excellent treatment of cultural diversity and learning styles. It comes at a time when more than two million students nationwide with limited English proficiency fill our classrooms -- a time when today's teachers desperately need practical, effective resources to help these students succeed in school. more

More K than 12
Although this book calls itself a complete K-12 handbook, in reality it is much more geared toward lower elementary school than high school.

Best book for CTEL
I bought this book along with the CTEL Exam Flashcards to study for the CTEL exam. I had 2 weeks to study and thanks to this book, I passed all 3 tests the first time. I teach music so most of it was new material to me. I highly recommend this edition, but if there's a newer one available, I'd...

Glad I bought this before taking the CTEL exam
I just took the CTEL exam today, and I sure am glad that I didn't take it before reading this book. Most of the information over which we were tested was explained in the book. Along with the flashcards, I think this is a wise investment.
