Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges
Now fully revised?the perennially popular guide to choosing the right college
Prospective college students and their parents have been relying on Loren Pope?s expertise since 1995, when he published the first edition of this indispensable guide. This new edition profiles 41 colleges?all of which outdo the Ivies and research universities in producing performers, not only among A students but also among those who get Bs and Cs. Contents include:
? Evaluations of each school?s program and "personality"
? Candid assessments by students, professors, and deans
? Information on the progress of graduates
This new edition not only revisits schools listed in previous volumes to give readers a comprehensive assessment, it also addresses such issues as homeschooling, learning disabilities, and single-sex education. more

Colleges That Change Lives...book review
I have not finished the book but it promises to give some very informative information and was recommended to me by a college professor in NC. It just took a very long time to get to me.

I Wish I'd Read This Book Before Applying to College
I wish I'd read this book before I went to college. Although I was very happy with the college I attended, reading this book might have changed my life. At the time I wasn't really thinking about college that way. I knew my life was going to change. For one thing I'd be 800 miles away from my...

College Book
Seems like a very good book, for small schools. Unfortunately, it seems like they are usually pretty expensive. My daughter will explore the content, however.

Many other schools fit criteria
This is a great book, except that there are plenty of other schools that fit the criteria listed. There is a plethora of liberal arts colleges in the United States and Canada -- far too many to list here. Some schools (such as Western New England, which I attended) are not strictly "liberal...

WIll Change the Way You View the Undergraduate Experience
As a career coach for college-bound students, I recommend Loren Pope's book to my clients, but not as a guide to specific schools. What is most worthwhile is Pope's well-articulated point of view that college is not an exercise in grabbing the prestigious brass ring, or getting one's ticket...

good but need more alternatives
This classic book has one big problem. The colleges in the book haven't changed much over time, and as a result they are quite popular and are no longer the colleges for the B or C student that the book was originally meant for--no longer the colleges that change lives. I wish the new addition...

well, it worked
I don't really know anything about this sort of book (I teach in a college and don't think much about how kids pick or apply to colleges) but I bought this for my nephew who was massively uninterested in applying anywhere and it WORKED. He got interested in these schools and filled out...

Good advice but hire someone to help you
I've read two of Loren Pope's books about colleges while hunting for a small liberal arts college in the U.S. His books are really helpful, but there is one area where I was misled. For months I just read his books and about 4 others to get an idea of what colleges were out there and what kind...

Essential for students and parents
Our son graduated high school in 2002. A friend suggested this book to us and we read it eagerly. We parents were struck by the wisdom of Pope's arguments that big name colleges charge a lot for the prestige of the name, while the colleges in this book just offer great education. Our son studied...
