1. What is Smarter.com?
Smarter.com is the fastest growing online comparison shopping engine on the Internet. Our mission is to bring qualified buyers who are looking for products to research and buy and match them up with our merchant partners who sell those products. With our 'Smarter Price' functionality, consumers can see exactly how much they would pay for a particular product and have the opportunity to give feedback on the product, on a particular merchant and write reviews based on their buying experience from the Smarter.com merchant partners.
For merchant partners, we are a bid-for-placement, pay-for-performance comparison shopping engine of the purest form. No banners, no buttons, no leaderboards, just comprehensive price comparison and a clean, uncluttered interface which allows consumers to do what they came to do: compare and buy.
2. Why join the Smarter.com merchant program?
- 1. Receive more targeted traffic - one of the toughest elements of ecommerce is driving sales leads. Smarter.com not only allows merchants to determine their placement within the Smarter product listings, they determine the cost per lead, which products are displayed on the Smarter.com site and how many sales leads they receive from Smarter.com.
- 2. More Bidding Options - unlike the other comparison shopping engines, Smarter.com's dynamic product marketplace allows merchants to bid on an Account, Category, and/or SKU level. This means merchants participate as much or as little as they care to in the bidding process. If merchants want to bid individual products to the top of the Smarter product listings or just bid all products within a Smarter Category to a certain CPC, or just bid all their products at one CPC, they have the option using the Smarter Account Management (SAM) tool.
- 3. Better Reporting - ever wonder what % of traffic is going to your listings versus your competitors? Using the Smarter Account Management (SAM) system, merchants can gain insight into the competitive landscape and understand performance of their campaign on a summary, category, even SKU level. Analyzing campaign elements like: impressions, clicks, click-through rate, traffic share and cost all aid in understanding how much a you can afford to spend to drive sales leads through Smarter.com.
3. What does CPC mean?
CPC (Cost-per-Click): This is the pre-determined amount merchants have designated they wish to pay on a product-by-product basis for each new sales lead Smarter.com sends them. Unlike PPC (Price-per-Click), Smarter.com eliminates the bid gap to ensure merchants only pay $0.01 more than the bid amount of their next lowest ranking competitor.
(For CPC minimums by Category, please see our rate card).
4. What does FTP mean?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol): This is the application protocol is used to send a merchant's datafeed, or Smarter Product File (SPF), to secure location where Smarter.com can retrieve it and catalog it for display on the Smarter.com engine.
(For more information on FTP and the datafeed, see datafeed).
5. How much does the program cost?
There is no startup fee or setup cost, only a deposit amount which is credit towards CPC charges
Smarter.com offers three Payment Plan options:
- Continuous Traffic Plan
The Continuous Traffic Plan guarantees that merchant listings remain on Smarter.com without interruption. The merchant account is automatically replenished when the merchant's account balance falls below 2 days worth of funds remaining, with an amount predetermined by the merchant during signup.
- Monthly Budget Plan
The Monthly Budget Plan allows merchants to specify the amount they would like to spend per month on Smarter.com sales leads. Merchant listings are taken offline as soon as the monthly budget has been exhausted and a reminder is sent before the end of each month to inform the merchant their account is being replenished. Keep in mind that those merchants who wish to spend more during a given month, even though their budget has been reached, can do so by adding additional funds through the Smarter Account Management (SAM) system.
- Pre-Payment Plan
The Pre-Payment Plan allows merchants to specify a pre-set spending limit for their account. When the account is depleted, merchant listings are taken offline until the merchant adds additional funds into the account.
6. How much does it cost to get started?
The minimum deposit requirements are as follows:- Continuous Traffic Plan: $100
- Monthly Budget Plan: $100
- Pre-Payment Plan: $100
Keep in mind these amounts are counted as credit towards click charges and unused portions are fully refundable should a merchant decide to terminate their relationship with Smarter.com (see: Section 9 of the Merchant 'Terms & Conditions' ).
