Cause for Alarm/Victim in Pain

There was never anything fancy about these New York hardcore pioneers, just the aural equivalent of a swift kick to the nether regions followed by a brass-knuckled rap on the noggin. Then again, that's probably what made Roger Miret & Co. so popular with the testosterone-fueled adolescents that related to the band's might-makes-right approach. The band drew some criticism for its avowedly right-wing political stance--"Shoot His Load" praised subway gunman Bernhard Goetz, while "Public Assistance" knocked those who accepted it--but repeated exposure reveals them to be total misanthropes, rather than antagonists of any specific group. If a feel-good album is what you're looking for, steer clear. But those hankering for a shot of no-frills punk-metal with a side of malice will certainly feel sated. --David Sprague  more

D.K. Malone, you are Definitely WRONG!

I had to stand up to D.K. Malone's "one eyed" review of this 2 classic hardcore albums. For starters, this CD includes AGNOSTIC FRONT's 1st full album release, "Victim In Pain" and their second, more metal oriented "Cause For Alarm". Production wise, there IS an abysmal difference between both...

Roger Miret is kind of short in real life!

"Cause for Alarm/Victim in Pain" is really good. Tracks 1 through 10 come from 1986's "Cause for Alarm". It's sort of Agnostic Front's effort to "crossover", or in other words, to combine metal and punk together. It has awesome metal drumming and hardcore lyrics with a punk/metal guitar sound....

Innovative, But Not Classic

Now, don't get me wrong, these are decent albums, it's just that they aren't classics, as some say. In fact, my 4 star rating should really be 3.5 stars (I give "VIP" 4 stars and "CFA" 3 stars), but i'm adding half a star for kickstarting the NYHC movement, which is the most brutal of all the...

The listener is the real victim in pain. (catchy?)

Cause for Alarm kind of sucks, just boring, tedious, kind of cheesy at times; but that really isn't important. Victim in Pain is, in the eyes of many, one of the greatest old New York hardcore albums. In most cases I agree with the majority of peoples' opinions on great early punk/hardcore...

Half terrible, half awesome

I agree with the previous reviewer about one thing: This CD is split down the middle, and one half is great while the other half is not. However, I couldn't disagree more about which half is which. Victim In Pain is AF's first album, recorded in 1984. To put it bluntly, it stinks. Don't let the...

half awesome half terrible

This is Agnostic Front's finest work (Victim in pain), coupled with the worst and weakest of their early efforts (Cause For Alarm). Victim in Pain is a trully intense blast of old school punk/hardcore- totally lo-fi and full of venom a bit in the vein of Negative Approach....sort of like...

Cause for Alarm is just as good...

This is a hardcore classic that any fan of hardcore has toown. There are no two ways about it this album is brilliant. The chronlogy on this album is reversed starting with 'Cause for alarm' which came AFTER 'Victim in Pain'. A lot of people for some reason are not too king about Cause... This is...
