A Rush of Blood to the Head

Coldplay required a lifetime to make their wonderfully assured debut, Parachutes. But it took less than two years for the moody British quartet to deliver a masterful follow-up. As a band, Coldplay have advanced to a stage where they outshine nearly every one of their rivals in terms of imagination and emotional pull. A Rush of Blood to the Head is a soulful, exhilarating journey, moving from the cathartic rock of "Politik" to the hushed tones of "Green Eyes" without once breaking its mesmerizing spell. Singer Chris Martin takes his voice on soaring flights, reaching places only Jeff Buckley previously dared to go. And the music is nearly flawless, a persuasive cross between Pink Floyd and the Verve. Even if they haven't come up with another "Yellow," you would be hard-pressed to care. This is exquisite stuff. --Aidin Vaziri

Things Unsaid

It may not transcend Parachutes, but this is a very decent sophomore effort. Sure it's mopey; sure it's resigned. That's the whole point. The question then becomes, how well does it achieve its goal to mope you out? Well, as it turns out it's pretty damn effective in that department. Most of...

Singer ain't that good

I was given this album as a gift three years ago and while it was new to me I immediately noticed that the lead vocalist had no idea of how to break away from singing very "clunkily" in syllables...to every song!!!I haven't read all the reviews to this album (would take days) but wonder if he...

Phenomenal

The Coldplay album to get if you're only going to get one, but all of them are good.this isn't as mellow or low-key as Parachutes. amazing orchestration, sweeping melodies. i admit this isn't for everyone.. some may find it depressing but i think the songs aren't straight depressing- they're more...

A Powerful and Adventurous Album

Coldplay's release of Parachutes a couple of years prior was one of the most acclaimed yet criticized albums of 2000, which broke the band into the mainstream with the hit "Yellow". Now the band has come out with "A Rush of Blood To The Head" and simply does not disappoint their fans. The album...

Mellow and cool.

A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay isn't a perfect album but they are some beautiful tracks like The Scientist, In My Place, Warning Sign, Clocks, and God Put a Smile Upon Your Face. The rest of the songs are kinda boring. Frontman Chris Martin's vocals can get annoying after awhile but the...

Less a rush than a trickle

Strangely ineffectual take on the soulful pop rock sound on the British band's sophomore album. Chris Martin has the pretty falsetto to wail his heart out, but for the most part, the music lacks weight and edge, his performance gives bombast a new meaning, and the risks taken are few and far...

Awesome lyrics!!!!!!!!!!

"A Rush of blood to the head" is destined to be a favorite among thousands because of its first rate lyrics. Admittedly it is sometimes hard to understand what the Chris Martin is talking about, but the lyrics are easy to memorize. For instance in the song "Green Eyes" he says, "Honey, you are...

"Open Up Your Eyes"

I like to call myself a late bloomer when it comes to Coldplay. This was the first album of theirs I purchased, after hearing the band perform "Clocks" on The Tonight Show. Before that, amazingly, I had never heard "Yellow". Regardless, I now own all their work and I've come to love their...
