Bird Songs

Drawing from the collection of the world-renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Bird Songs presents the most notable North American birds?including the rediscovered Ivory-billed Woodpecker?in a stunning new format. Renowned bird biologist Les Beletsky provides a succinct description of each of the 250 birds profiled, with an emphasis on their distinctive songs. Lavish full-color illustrations accompany each account, while a sleek, built-in digital audio player holds 250 corresponding songs and calls. In his foreword, North American bird expert and distinguished natural historian Jon L. Dunn shares insights gained from a lifetime of passionate study. Complete with the most up-to-date and scientifically accurate information, Bird Songs is the first book to capture the enchantment of these beautiful birds in words, pictures, and song. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, located in Ithaca, New York, is a nonprofit institution focused on birds and whose mission is to interpret and conserve the earth's biological diversity through research. The Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab is the major source of sound recordings of birds for research, education, conservation, the media, and commercial products.  more

I should get a commission

I'm not interested in birds, but this book is amazing. I would have happily paid twice as much. We keep it front and center on our bookshelf, although I'm thinking of hiding it. Everyone who visits us and is shown the book, can't stop playing the bird songs. And they want their own copy.

Bird Songs: 250 North American Birds in Song

I was disappointed in this book because I thought it would have every sound/note/call that each bird makes too, not just its song. I know the cardinals in my backyard have way more sounds that they make than the one song in this book, for instance. I also wish they would group the birds...

Great learning tool

I received this book last year and everyone seems to enjoy learning from it. I just got one this year for my 84 year mother and now she wants to send one to her great grandchildren. It is a little pricey and you have to scroll thru each number to get to what you want. It is battery operated and...

Terrific way to identify the mystery birds in your life!

I've had this book for over a year. It is one of my many bird reference books and is probably my favorite. We live in the a very rural area and have a vacation place in an even MORE rural area. Both are on water so we get many species of birds living with us and just passing through. Many times...

Nice book

Beautiful illustrations. Good information on each bird. A great way to familiarize yourself with the various calls. Also love the way book is segmented into habitats. Some typos in the index, but over all a great book for newer birders.

Bird book with sound

This is a fun and informative book ~ and I received it quickly. Because there was sound, the book requires batteries and I did have to replace them first thing, but otherwise it is great. I know my mom will really like it. I enjoy it, too!

Initial Disappointment

The book was received in good time and outward condition. My attraction to this book was the recorded bird songs that it could play. This feature did not function. I called the publisher and was told that a new book would be shipped. This took place on Jan. 7 and I have not heard anything since.
