Gattaca
This is a great movie. I have seen it several times. I use it when I teach my genetics unit and the students really like it, because of its modern ators/actresses and its twisting plot.

Great, but Tainted by Cheesy Dialogue in Final Reel
This movie is taut, gripping, intriguing, wonderful. It makes its point in such an understated way, which some take to be boring, but I found riveting. A lot of movies seem to have so little respect for the audience, just relentlessly clubbing us over the head with hackneyed symbolism and...

Special Edition improves on an excellent production
Gattaca is a superb motion picture, less science-fiction or political commentary than a compelling invitation to ponder old social metaphors in new ways.On the surface, Gattaca is visually stunning, emotionally evocative, and yet subtle -- a mix of whodunit and drama that asks viewers to think...

Beautifully shot
This movie is really really good-looking. It is essentially a murder mystery wrapped in science-fiction coating. Ethan Hawke plays an over-ambitious man who dreams of becoming an astronaut. Jude Law extracts pity as a crippled man confined to a wheelchair. The movie's message is that a child's...

The Historical Roots to this Film
To understand Gattaca, it helps to know a little history.About a century ago, progressives took up what the New York Times in 1912 called the "wonderful new science" of eugenics. Because of improvements in medicine and public health, eugenists said, the "unfit" were having more children than the...

A Classic!
I agree with the other reviewer, "I never saved anything for the swim back!" is the answer to Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, or to a genetic-manipulated world that we are now making. I own the DVD version, and now the blu-ray version. The 1080p detail is astonishing! Every time with my wife,...

Science fiction at its best, a modern version of Huxley's "Brave New World"
Gattaca really makes you wonder about the moral and ethical consequences of genetic engineering, and the risks of mankind playing God. This is science fiction at its best. In a nutshell, Gattaca is the modern version of Aldous Huxley's science fiction classic novel Brave New World (1932).As...
