meandering, predictable, post-rock par excellence

To put it bluntly, this music is boring. It's not transcendent in any way. Just some obvious harmonizing and simple repetitive melodies. All of the songs sound the same...you can't tell when they change, you put in the disc, it starts, its over...after what seems like one very long song repeating...

If I had a soundtrack to my life, I would want these five tracks to be at the top of the playlist

This entire album is amazing. So simple, yet so complex. These are not just songs; these are emotions in the form of music. There is no need for lyrics when you convey your message with such beautiful instrumentals.

Journey for the Soul

I have recommended this album to many friends, all who agree there is nothing else like it. It has become one of my all-time favorite albums. You need to buy this CD and experience it for yourself without interruptions.

transcendental

I'm not exaggerating; the compilation on this CD does transcend most music on the 'pop' charts today. Not that this should in any way be considered 'pop'... it's just that it is sooo much better than what we are accustomed to being fed by the media! Beautiful, haunting, inspiring, mysterious,...

A musical journey for closed eyes

The first of the so-called "post rock bands" that I ever listened to was Mogwai and their "Happy Songs..." record. Hearing of others, I then gravitated towards Sigur Ros and then finally Explosions in the Sky. But whereas bands like Sigur Ros or Godspeed You Black Emperor! tend to incorporate so...

easily their best album

I totally love this album. Tracks such as "Your hand in mine" are really wonderful. In their previous album they sounded like GYBE wannabes but here they have their own voice. This is the kind of music you would want to listen to while driving through a lonely Texas highway late in the night.

melodophonic

good. this is the first explosions in the sky cd i own. i suppose a measure of how much i like them is the fact i will probably buy another. yet nothing about them really grabbed me. fairly a-typical. more melodic than i prefer, a distinct lack of the chaos factor thats so appealing about...

Woah

There are plenty of words that come to mind when listening to this CD. Awash, beauty, melancholy, transcendence... the list rolls on. Unfortunately, these aren't exactly words that can be put together to form sentences, just as the songs of Explosions in the Sky can't easily be translated into...

Warm And Alive

The warm, transcendent tone of this Texan quartet hasn't diminished at all in the past three albums. Here you will still find the beauty of their emotional minimalism and the quiet ingratiating endurance of their gingerly designed songs (each of them clocking in between 8 and 10 minutes). For...
