Gerhard would be proud
`Experimental rock' and `noise rock' are such loose, intangible terms that I become troubled by seeing them branded on an album. They're umbrella terms that swoop over any music that is vaguely `out there', pushing some kind of ideal of what we deem traditional. Yet they hold a complete disregard...

One of the best reachable Sonic Youth Albums
This is a great album. It is one of my favorite Sonic Youth albums. Unlike a lot of their albums this one is not so experimental in sound, and is easier to listen to. If you have a Sonic Youth itch and you are not sure which album to start with this one is a good choice.

A Classic
A beautiful breed of melody and dissonance. Give it a few listens before casting judgment: their note patterns are anything but traditional, and one must forget the usual Western constructs of music theory before appreciating the brilliance of this album. My favorite tracks are Silver Rocket, The...

Sonic Youth's raison d'ĂȘtre
This is it, as far as I'm concerned; the ultimate justification for the existence of Sonic Youth as a band.I was mildly precocious as an Irish teenager because I was buying import copies of 'Sister' and 'Confusion Is Sex' when my peers were digging the rad new sounds of U2's 'The Joshua Tree'. I...

Daydream Nation
Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation ****1/2Before my first listen to Daydream Nation was over I was wondering what they hell is going on here? This was somewhere around the song 'Candle' that I began to ask myself that. I was thinking this is one of the most intellegent and revolutionary albums I have...

Usually brilliant and always unique
The original grunge album, only even more abrasive and cathartic - "Silver Rocket", for instance, has an instrumental break entirely devoted to feedback, and I don't know what to call those noises on "Eric's Trip", but they sure sound cool. And, of course, it's at least as good as it's made out...

As seen on MP3s
I already knew the album, as I had listened it it in the past in MP3 format. This was the ideal moment to purchase a physical copy and as a consequence it was as expected. Great service, though.

My hypothesis was correct
This album is a concrete example on how music can become so much better once you let it sink in. Now, I am a newcomer to this kind of music that Sonic Youth does, the closest thing that I've heard from this is Loveless by My Bloody Valentine. That particular album has different, easy, erotic...

"Look into my eyes, don't you trust me?"
I can guess that this was very innovative at the time, and a big step forward for that kind of post-punk sound. It holds up well, and is definitely a good album, I just have a hard time really getting into it. The production's a little lo-fi by today's standards, and I think there's an overall...

Sonic brilliance
I'll admit that when I first listened to Daydream Nation, I wasn't so sure I liked it. It was lengthy, almost self-consciously difficult, dissonant, and strange. The second time through, I latched onto a few songs ("Teen Age Riot," "Candle," "Silver Rocket," "Total Trash"). The third time...
