I played piano long ago as a kid, but have been out of music for quite a few years now. This is a great way to get back in, learning the bars, notes, and strings. I'm a fan of progressive rock and metal, so I plan to follow in the footsteps of... read full review | report as inappropriate
I certainly wouldn't recommend these books to anyone. As a reference I guess they are ok, but I am not sure why people like these (including my guitar instructor). If you want to learn guitar, get an instructor and/or a good instructional DVD. read full review | report as inappropriate
As far as method books go, this one is not bad. I still recommend individual/group lessons if you hope to advance. But all in all, not a bad book for the beginner. read full review | report as inappropriate

This is a book about the composers of America's most popular popular music, the music that came into being from roughly 1920 to 1950. It is not a formal treatise or scholarly study but rather a kind of fan's notes ramble, an enthusiastic exuberant... read full review | report as inappropriate
I ran out and got this book because of its subject - American music. Also, I listen to Jonathan Schwartz and he raved about on his radio show on WNYC. I was disappointed. Sheed's book is a kind of a `riff' on the subject... read full review | report as inappropriate

This is an amazing product. I have seen other how-to-play guitar videos, but this is by far the best. The play-along viddeos make it much easier to play songs. The method is by far the easiest way to get started and have fun. I had their first... read full review | report as inappropriate

I have been using this book with my students since Barrett started putting together the opening chapters. I first used it with my advanced students, those who already had some experience with the 5 patterns of major scales. Immediately they... read full review | report as inappropriate

The book was great going, till it hit chapter #7. Suddenly, without explaining as to how, it asked to create boxed major scale patters on root pattern theory , and i was all lost. I would still recommend this book to everyone, as it... read full review | report as inappropriate

One of my sons just loves playing these songs as a supplement to his Suzuki instruction. They are catchy and progress very gradually--much more gradually than the Suzuki repetoire. Then, his twin brother, whom I've tried for years to interest... read full review | report as inappropriate
Despite what the title says, "A Book For The Earliest Beginner", I feel that it's not for the kids younger than 6 or 7. Requiring to read the music notes on the lines right from the beginning is too much for the kids who barely know alphabets.... read full review | report as inappropriate
I have never played the piano before this past year and at 56 years of age, it isn't the easiest thing to pick up! However, this book not only let's you play 'like a pro' right off the bat, but the stylings are simple, understandable, and with... read full review | report as inappropriate

The thing I like about this book is it does not presume anything of the reader. I don't care how good you are, or how long, or how little, you have been playing guitar, you should get this book. You WILL learn something.

Well, the book is not bad and definately covers a wide range of topics. The thing is that I don't think that a person who never played a guitar before will end up knowing to play by reading this book. The book tends to touch on some basic notions... read full review | report as inappropriate
I concur with those who found the book useful, but not comprehensive enough. Its strengths lie in teaching how to strum early on, and how to use the basic patterns of different styles right away. I was certainly not bored, and some of the... read full review | report as inappropriate

If you "took some lessons as a kid" and want to get back to playing, this book is great. It not only helps you get your technique back, it also teaches you about chord structure. You understand what you are playing, and can start improvising! read full review | report as inappropriate

For the price it sells for it is a steal. It contains exercises for pianists for all experience levels from beginner to the master. The techniques that Hanon uses almost guarantees that anyone who them can become stronger and better pianists. read full review | report as inappropriate

"The Virtuoso Pianist" is very useful and well edited. However, if you're willing to tolerate some poor editing there's a much better book: "Hanon Revisited".
