The C Programming Language (2nd Edition)
This book is meant to help the reader learn how to program in C. It is the definitive reference guide, now in a second edition. Although the first edition was written in 1978, it continues to be a worldwide best-seller. This second edition brings the classic original up to date to include the ANSI standard. From the Preface: We have tried to retain the brevity of the first edition. C is not a big language, and it is not well served by a big book. We have improved the exposition of critical features, such as pointers, that are central to C programming. We have refined the original examples, and have added new examples in several chapters. For instance, the treatment of complicated declarations is augmented by programs that convert declarations into words and vice versa. As before, all examples have been tested directly from the text, which is in machine-readable form. As we said in the first preface to the first edition, C "wears well as one's experience with it grows." With a decade more experience, we still feel that way. We hope that this book will help you to learn C and use it well. more

Not sure about this book...
Okay so I know a little about programming already from my earlier years, I have been out of programming for many years and thought I'd pick up a "good book" on "C" to start back into it again. I have found this book a little on the difficult side to learning the language. Although the examples...

One of the rare one which gets to the points with clarity.
One of the rare one which gets to the points with clarity and conciseness. The only issue is it does not provide corrections to any of the exercises. No doubt about it, I will recommend it.

The Standard for learning C
There are over 200 hundred other reviews for this book. If that's not enough of a recommendation I don't know what is. This is the standard for learning C, it's through, yet simple, and covers all the bases needed to get into starting C. Even if you've been using C for years I'd still recommend...

Excellent reference; terrible learning resource
This book is probably the best reference book for C. However, do not bother trying to learn C from this book unless you are pretty comfortable with programming. For learning C, there are better resources out there.

Authoritative, Concise, and Elegant
It's been eleven years since The C Programming Language, 2nd Edition (affectionately referred to as K&R2, which derives from the authors' last names) was first printed, and ten more since the first edition. Despite the passing of two decades, C's syntax and semantics has remained fairly stable....

Read a newbie book on C, than pick this one up
Hi. I'm studying Computer Science and i have a course that deals with C. The book recommended for this course is this one. Since 90% of my colleagues do not have experience in programming, this book is hard, confusing and nerve breaking. Do not get me wrong, this is a good book, but if you've...

Still the Bible on C
As an undergrad at Columbia, I had the opportunity to learn C in 1976, when the UNIX was still (relatively) new and so was the C language, and I passed on it. I corrected that mistake 10 years later at Brooklyn College and this was the book from which I learned it.The book starts with an...

Experts only need apply...
All due respect to Mr. Ritchie (he created the C language), this is a VERY poorly written book. Before you experienced programmers hurl your keyboards at me, hear me out: when you study CS at university, one of the first classes you take is C/C++ programming. What does this mean? It means that C...
