The C Programming Language (2nd Edition)
This book is meant to help the reader learn how to program in C. It is the definitive reference guide, now in a second edition. Although the first edition was written in 1978, it continues to be a worldwide best-seller. This second edition brings the classic original up to date to include the ANSI standard. From the Preface: We have tried to retain the brevity of the first edition. C is not a big language, and it is not well served by a big book. We have improved the exposition of critical features, such as pointers, that are central to C programming. We have refined the original examples, and have added new examples in several chapters. For instance, the treatment of complicated declarations is augmented by programs that convert declarations into words and vice versa. As before, all examples have been tested directly from the text, which is in machine-readable form. As we said in the first preface to the first edition, C "wears well as one's experience with it grows." With a decade more experience, we still feel that way. We hope that this book will help you to learn C and use it well. more

- Excellent reference; terrible learning resource
This book is probably the best reference book for C. However, do not bother trying to learn C from this book unless you are pretty comfortable with programming. For learning C, there are better resources out there.

- Authoritative, Concise, and Elegant
It's been eleven years since The C Programming Language, 2nd Edition (affectionately referred to as K&R2, which derives from the authors' last names) was first printed, and ten more since the first edition. Despite the passing of two...

- Read a newbie book on C, than pick this one up
Hi. I'm studying Computer Science and i have a course that deals with C. The book recommended for this course is this one. Since 90% of my colleagues do not have experience in programming, this book is hard, confusing and nerve breaking....

- Still the Bible on C
As an undergrad at Columbia, I had the opportunity to learn C in 1976, when the UNIX was still (relatively) new and so was the C language, and I passed on it. I corrected that mistake 10 years later at Brooklyn College and this was the...

- Writing harder to read than the code
Its got good information for sure, and the author is obviously knowledgeable, but in all honesty I had a harder time reading his writing than just reading the code ... far to many obscure / unnecessary words used that do not relate to...
