Algebra for Dummies
One of the most commonly asked questions in a mathematics classroom is, "Will I ever use this stuff in real life?" Some teachers can give a good, convincing answer; others hem and haw and stare at the floor. The real response to the question should be, "Yes, you will, because algebra gives you power"the power to help your children with their math homework, the power to manage your finances, the power to be successful in your career (especially if you have to manage the company budget). The list goes on. Algebra is a system of mathematical symbols and rules that are universally understood, no matter what the spoken language. Algebra provides a clear, methodical process that can be followed from beginning to end to solve complex problems. There's no doubt that algebra can be easy to some while extremely challenging to others. For those of you who are challenged by working with numbers, Algebra For Dummies can provide the help you need. This easy-to-understand reference not only explains algebra in terms you can understand, but it also gives you the necessary tools to solve complex problems. But rest assured, this book is not about memorizing a bunch of meaningless steps; you find out the whys behind algebra to increase your understanding of how algebra works. Poorly Written
Slapping a bunch of demeaning baby talk on top of poorly worded, disorganized and incomplete "explanations" does not a user-friendly math book make. Sadly, that's precisely what this book does. In one breath the author is insulting your intelligence: "Operations in algebra are nothing like...

Exactly what was expected
Wish I could have gotten it a little sooner, but the wait wasn't excessive and the book was in good condition.

DO NOT get this book if you are trying to learn algebra
Do Not get this book if you are trying to learn algebra. The first half of the book is OK, the basic stuff. Once you get further along there are tons of problems with no explanation AT ALL as to why she is doing certain things in the problem. This is a good book for a refresher, that's it.

Algebra for, of and by dummies.
I think the 'dummies franchise is doomed if they permit this kind of product to leave their publisher. The author befuddles the reader and obfuscates the subject. My high school algebra was never this confusing. Our country lags much of the world because of teachings like this.Teaching requires...

A little tough for a beginner, but worth it in the end
Like some other commenters, I bought this book because I am returning to college to finish a degree 20 years after leaving school, and was told I had to take a math placement exam, primarily in algebra. I was panicked, because I was never a strong math student and haven't taken a math class in...

Good additional instruction
I bought this book for my daughter, who was about to enter Algebra II and wanted a refresher course in Algebra I. This is definitely not a book for people who are unfamiliar with algebra and haven't taken a class or studied it already. But my daughter found the book useful, and she's doing very...

Does Exactly What it is Supposed to Do
This is NOT an algebra textbook and it was never meant to be one. It's meant to SUPPLEMENT a textbook. I have an extremely hard time understanding math books and math teachers. I've always been that way. I've repeated Pre-Algebra and Algebra so many times it'd make your head spin. Well, this...

Great tool
It has made my algebra review easy. The author gave me clear instructions and plenty of examples. I know it better now than I learned it 40 years ago.

Algebra for Dummies
I was forced into taking Algebra as one of the requirements for my Associates. I had never taken Algebra before and was a little nervous about taking it. My professor suggested this book so I would have a reference that spoke in plain english. It was helpful in understanding some of the verbage...

Not for dummies like me....
This book was of little help. It did help some refreshing me with order of operation, but some of the problems they had in there my PhD friends had a hard time with and needed a whole whiteboard to show me when they figured it out. This book is only good if you already have some knowledge of...
