Then: The Earlier Years
Before they became a successful major-label act, New York smart-guy popsters John Flansburgh and John Linnell started out as a resourceful do-it-yourself duo, recording their wacky ditties at home and making them available to the public via their Dial-A-Song hotline. That playful, resourceful spirit is the order of the day on this 2 CD, 72-song compilation, which incorporates the contents of the early TMBG albums They Might Be Giants, Lincoln, and Miscellaneous T, plus a passel of previously unreleased oddities and some droll liner notes written by the artists. The wildly eclectic yet consistently accessible material (including the early hits "Don't Let's Start" and "Ana Ng") still sounds fresh and inventive, embodying the pair's trademark blend of smarts and silliness. --Scott Schinder more

- Why buy their first two cd's at twice the price?
This is the first two CD's of They Might be Giants released as a double cd. It has great liner notes, and some extra gravy thrown in. Well worth the money spent for so many great songs.

- So many amazing songs...
This double-disk set is incredible... It covers the first 2 TMBG albums, EVERY ep off the two albums, plus so much more... A total of 72 tracks, at least half of which are really really good tunes... Any fan of TMBG MUST own these discs!

- An OBSCURE-DISK Commentary.
Gene-splicing the freewheeling spirit of the early 1980's Lower East Side NYC perf-art scene to a frighteningly well-versed musical vocabulary, They Might Be Giants made their reputation on a string of quixotic, smart, and unsettling...

- The songs from their Lincoln CD were the best from this era!
The cd set clearly shows that they were terrible at first but then started improving after their 2nd album. Most of the ep and bonus songs were also terrible and only ensane or drunk people can possibley enjoy any of them. Save your...
