Flesh and Bone
The highlight of this record, the song I return to again and again, is Kaplansky's cool, troubling take on the old ballad "Mary and the Soldier." An east coast folkie who came of age with Shawn Colvin, Kaplanksy's own material is rarely up to traditional standards, but she sings her own sometimes clever, sometimes precious tunes with a clear, springy tenor, and her guitar work has the virtues of speed and lightness of touch. Fortunately she chooses covers smartly, with Richard Thompson's "Don't Renege on Our Love" and Nick Lowe's "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding" being standouts. --Roy Francis Kasten more

WOW, A Very Good First Album from LK! :)
Best songs on this CD are "If You Could See Me," "Scorpion," "Still Life," and "This is Mine." Alittle bit twangy in a couple of the numbers, but overall excellent. I'm glad LK's music didn't follow the "twangy" road. The guitar work goes especially well with the vocals in this collection....

Nancy Griffith Redux
Don't get me wrong-- Lucy has a pretty voice. It's just that Nancy Griffith is much more talented, both as a singer and as a writer... and Lucy's voice sounds like she could be Griffith's younger sister... that, mixed-in with some Suzanne Vega twang. For better songs and better production values,...

Lucy Kaplansky sounds too much like Suzanne Vega
This is quality music, no doubt. However, it strikes me as being too similar to the original works of Suzanne Vega. So while it's a pleasant listen, I would recommend Ms. Vega first.

A GREAT SET FROM A TALENTED ARTIST
This is one of my favorite Lucy Kaplansky discs. Like her astounding live performances, it's filled with wonderful material -- her own compositions, up to the standards we've come to expect, and some other great choices as well.'Scorpion' opens the album nicely with a well-written, catchy take...

Lucy's voice is beautiful and haunting

I now own all of her CDs and she has become my favorite artist. Her voice can be uplifting, haunting, inspiring, and...

A must have!
What can you say about Lucy? She's got a style that's all her own. This album runs from achingly beautiful lyrics on "Scorpion" to sarcastic humor on "The Thief." And in between we've got happy love songs like "Love Is The Ride" - one of my personal favorites. You could say she's the next...

Beautiful and important
This CD is stunning. Lucy has a way with her voice and her words that makes me pause, listen and remember. I find myself singing in the car and humming at home. It is addicting and not to be overlooked. This is the stuff all classic CDs are made of and they do not come along often! Lucy is...
