The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief
Does science necessarily undermine faith in God? Or could it actually support faith? Beyond the flashpoint debates over the teaching of evolution, or stem-cell research, most of us struggle with contradictions concerning life's ultimate question. We know that accidents happen, but we believe we are on earth for a reason. Until now, most scientists have argued that science and faith occupy distinct arenas. Francis Collins, a former atheist as a science student who converted to faith as he became a doctor, is about to change that. Collins's faith in God has been confirmed and enhanced by the revolutionary discoveries in biology that he has helped to oversee. He has absorbed the arguments for atheism of many scientists and pundits, and he can refute them. Darwinian evolution occurs, yet, as he explains, it cannot fully explain human nature -- evolution can and must be directed by God. He offers an inspiring tour of the human genome to show the miraculous nature of God's instruction book. Sure to be compared with C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity, this is a stunning document, whether you are a believer, a seeker, or an atheist.

Language of God in simple terms
This book is written in a simple, straightfoward manner which enables the reader to understand principles of physics and such in a rudimentary way. It is a fascinating read, including the authors own walk through disbelief to a beautiful understanding how God's Creation and Evolution are not...

Recommended Reading, Though Limited In Scope
This is a good introduction to the perspective of theistic evolution. An easy read. Much though is missing regarding the alternative theological thoughts in order to harmonize Christianity & evolution. Collin's arguments are fine, though not very bullet-proof. The biggest take-away for most...

THE LANGUAGE OF GOD
It' nice and readable.May be a little too superficial from the medical point of view and the author is not using his scientific knowledge to corroborate the religious sentiment.

Scientifically accurate, sincere, limited on theology
Francis Collins M.D., PhD is the physician-geneticist who led the Human Genome Project (HGP) and was described as "one of the most accomplished scientists of our time" when appointed as Director of the National Institutes of Health. Many were shocked when President Clinton announced the...

Science and Faith not Science vs. Faith
Finally a book that provides solace and comfort to believers who have struggled with the evolution vs. religion dilemma. There is no question that many of us have the gut reaction of "I did not come from a monkey" and prefer to go with creationists or intelligent design proponents than ever...

He should have done better...
This book is interesting mostly in that it illustrates how even an intelligent man can be deluded by a popular opinion. (Madoff comes to mind.) Collins' thesis is based on the supposed existence of an absolute morality -- an idean which he got from C S Lewis (with attribution), who got it from...

Credible, Balanced, Honest
That Collins is head of the Human Genome Project adds a hefty amount of credibility to his argument proposing harmony between science and faith. Even more convincing is that he defends science itself against forces (including irrational and incomplete ideas) within religion that would counter...

God, Truth and Believers
The themes that have stayed with me after reading Dr. Francis Collins' powerful book are these: 1)The creative power of God is limitless and observable in the natural order of our world 2) We don't know everything there is to know about God and His creation (and that's ok) and 3) Christians have...

Ignore the subtitle
Many reviewers note that Collins' book doesn't really provide evidence for belief and complain that the subtitle is misleading. It is-- no doubt thanks to the publisher. Many also note that Collins says as much in the text. "BioLogos [theistic evolution] is not intended as a scientific theory....
