At Smarter.com, we aim to ensure we give you the most sound buying advice possible. With our 'Cumulative Product Rating' system, in order for a product to receive a rating score, it must have a minimum number of ratings to qualify.
This system is not intended to diminish the value of products with a low number of ratings and reviews, they're great, and hopefully very helpful, but if you want our advice, we want to make sure that the product you're thinking of buying has been rated and reviewed by enough shoppers like you to be a valuable indicator of product quality.

I bought this camera in 2006, and I'm very happy with it's picture quality. At 1080i I can downconverted to SD and burn at on a DVD. I recently shot a 60min. at the L.A. Auto show and connected directly to my 50" Samsung Plasma at 1080i (HDMI), the

Excellent camera
It is really professional camera. I like it very much. I use Sony's F900 HDCAM and sometimes I also use XDCAM series camcorders. I decided to buy something smaller and lighter but with professional abilities. I found it. It is the Sony HVR-Z1U. T

HDV Work Horse
I've used my Sony HVR-Z1U HDV camcorder in some very extreme conditions, and it it comes through on a regular basis. I shot Hurricane Katrina video footage during the storm (for StormStock) in driving 100 mph rain. At that time, I had purchased...

This was the first HDV Camcorder I had tried this year (Jan, 2007) and I'm very happy with the results. . . The depth of field is amazing . .. The Quality is Identical to a 2/3 chip. I love the manual controls, Sony has improved a lot from the

This camera is amazing!
I like mostly everything about this camera. The LCD flip out is very big and placed in a great spot. It sits further away from the face so it's easier on the eyes. The manual controls are very well thought out in their placement. Although I would hav

We're impressed
My bride (of 43 years) bought this camera for her videomaker business, and as her "best boy" (?) I'm the guy who is using it. And I am impressed. I've shot in DV and HDV modes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it played back an LP...

Z1 is a classic design and solid workhorse
I got the Z1 in June 06. While I usually practice with new cams for a few weeks before taking them on a job, this one was far more user friendly than I expected, so it went into service right away. I came from a PD150 background, and that helped...

Z1U is a good workhorse
I have used a Z1Us since they came out. I also use XL-1s. The Z1U has the highest res pic due to its being HDV. What I really like about it is that it is rugged. I've dragged it through the jungles of guatemala, the constant (ugh) rain of...

Good camera
This a great camera. Includes all the possible features I need/want. The only problem is that is not good in low light situations. It takes me back a few years when using VX-2000 & PD 150. I still have to use my VX-2100 in order of covering...
