I really liked the Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition , which yokes two 1TB hard drives together to provide a terabyte of mirrored (RAID 1) storage. Think of the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II ($429.99 list) as the Mirror Edition's fra

Terrible enclosure, good hard drive

I primarily got this to use as an eSata drive, and as an external eSata drive, it is absolutely terrible. For whatever reason, as others have mentioned, this drive periodically goes to 'sleep', and can thus disappear from Windows. The only way to bring it back is to restart. For that fact...

Confused

After I purchased Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition (500GB) external hard drive, I went to check whether it had actually backed up my data using Apple's Time Machine. When I tried to open any application from the external hard drive I got error code -10657. I called Western Digital and...

One of the Lucky Ones

Not sure if they've improved on their hardware since terrible reviews, but mine works great. Make sure you look over the directions and properly eject the hardware.. Try not to shake it when or when not in use. This probably wasn't the problem for the techies but maybe for the less knowledgeable....

Excellent Choice for Macintosh Time Machine

I bought the Western Digital to replace a LaCie 500gb drive that's been shipped back twice in 8 months for repair. The Western Digital's auto on/off feature and the fact it's already formatted for my newer iMac were big selling points. I no longer have to listen to my idle harddrive spin...

It's been a great drive

I know Western Digital hasn't been known for their drives' reliability. However, I own two WD drives, this being one of them, and I haven't had any problems. I've owned each for months and use them regularly. I use this one via eSATA with my MacBook Pro for Time Machine. All has gone well....
