Dell Inspiron 1100 40 GB Hard drive
At Smarter.com, we aim to ensure we give you the most sound buying advice possible. With our 'Cumulative Product Rating' system, in order for a product to receive a rating score, it must have a minimum number of ratings to qualify.
This system is not intended to diminish the value of products with a low number of ratings and reviews, they're great, and hopefully very helpful, but if you want our advice, we want to make sure that the product you're thinking of buying has been rated and reviewed by enough shoppers like you to be a valuable indicator of product quality.

"Decent for the price but slow and very hot"
I got one when I started college. It's been durable and reliable, but I've had to upgrade the memory to get anything done on it. The battery life is pathetic. On a full charge, mine lasts about an hour. This effectively renders into a desktop...
PROS: price, general reliability
CONS: battery life is VERY SHORT (<1 hour for me), fast as a snail without memory upgrades

"I've used it for FOUR years! What more can you ask for?"
Overall, I wouldn't say it's great - but because it's lasted so long - really a miracle. I've had to reformat two times. There was once a time when I needed to have an actual fan on it for it to work well - but a good vacumm or duster blower...
PROS: solid keyboard (hasn't broken once), has s-video output, lasts long
CONS: loud fan, small hard drive

"10 tonne time bomb"
The inspiron 1100 and all related (11xx, 51xx) are not actually laptops because they burn you if you put them on your lap. This worthless excuse for a laptop has been nothing but trouble. It was the first and last Dell product my family will ever...
PROS: You can drop it off a high building at watch ot woth pleasure
CONS: The fact that you pay for this excuse for a laptop
