The previous reviewer is right that you don't really need the little container. But I find it convenient for holding the spice in an enclosed space and then pulling what I want from it. Also, the container is much easier to use than some other nutmeg graters that have containers attached. And...

Great, sharp little grater
I love this sharp little grater for zesting lemons/oranges. Very easy to hold in the palm of your hand. Creates very fine zest very quickly. My neighbor borrowed it and wants one for his birthday.
