Didn't see the dedication to William Golding ..
The central plot of The Pillars of Earth is eerily similar to William Golding's riveting 1964 novel "The Spire" - fittingly described by an Amazon reviewer as "One of the finest novels in the English canon". I recommend you go with the original.

waste of time
I don't care about historical accuracy - I was looking for a story with strong characterization. Tom's character was interesting - so was his 'girlfriend' - but too little was devoted to this part of the story. The 'gratuitious sex and violence'...

I couldn't put this book down for the 3 days it took me to read it. Its large size may scare off some readers thinking this may be a boring, drawn out historical novel. This has it all: suspense, drama, intrigue, passion, revenge and tons of plot...

Not recommended
I purchased this book several months ago and finally got around to reading it. Although several characters (Aliena and "Witch Ellen") caught my attention, overall the book lacked eloquence and I had a hard time trudging through some parts of it....
