Darkly Dreaming Dexter
The Basis for a New Showtime® Original Series Starring Michael C. Hall
Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep?s clothing. He?s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He?s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened?of himself or some other fiend. more

Pretty good but flawed
First off, I am a huge Dexter fan and the show is my favourite show on TV. I decided to check out the book to see how much the show differed and I am happy that it is different enough to be worth the read.I enjoyed this book but the author needs to quit the repetition from chapter to chapter of...

Dexter is amazing
Darkly Dreaming Dexter is probably one of the most entertaining books I have read in a very long time. The story itself is absolutely fascinating and the humor dark in a way that I just couldn't help but laugh, frequently, while reading. I bought this book after watching Showtime's "Dexter" via...

Great character, low-quality read
The Dexter character is great, and Showtime made him even better (deeper, funnier, more layers) than he is in the book. For creating Dexter, the character and Dexter, the overall concept, Lindsay deserves whatever wealth and fame he may get. But he's also fortuate that Showtime has so brilliantly...

Creepy but good.
I love the Showtime series of Dexter, so I wanted to read the book as well. All I can say without any spoilers--unless you've already seen the show--is that this is a very good book and very creepy. I wouldn't liken it to Stephen King or anything, but it comes close. I would recommend reading it,...

Extremely flawed, but good for a rainy day crime read
In 2008 I had only recently gotten into the Dexter craze; my cousin-in-law was CRAZY obsessed with the show and lots of my friends were telling me "Dude, you HAVE to see this awesome show called Dexter". So taking their advice, I went and watched the show... I rented the first season from the...

Great ideas, but poorly executed
Before I had Showtime, my brother gave me a copy of this book to read. Though I acknowledge, as nearly every other reviewer has, that Dexter is a unique and fascinating character, I found Lindsay's narrative style choppy and uninventive. The storylines are fascinating and and expertly crafted,...

A little Miami murder...
The first in the series of books that led to the television programme Dexter, Darkly Dreaming Dexter is one of the more interesting takes I've read on the idea of text as told from the bad guy's point of view. The text introduces Dexter Morgan, sociopath with a set of rules, if not a conscience....

Rooting For the Bad Guy
Dexter brings us a new and rather novel bad guy. On first glance it seems normal enough, another police detective book where Dexter works as a forensic invesitgator for the Miami Police.Staright forward enough, with one minor wrinkle, He takes his work home with him as a hobby - he is also a...

Sibling Rivalries
"Darkly Dreaming Dexter" is the first in the Dexter series. Dexter is a CSI (specifically, a blood-spatter analyst) for the Miami-Dade police department by day, while his "dark passenger" is a serial killer (but only of serious bad guys) by night. He isn't really schizophrenic since he is...
