The Appeal
In a crowded courtroom in Mississippi, a jury returns a shocking verdict against a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste into a small town?s water supply, causing the worst ?cancer cluster? in history. The company appeals to the Mississippi Supreme Court, whose nine justices will one day either approve the verdict or reverse it.
Who are the nine? How will they vote? Can one be replaced before the case is ultimately decided?
The chemical company is owned by a Wall Street predator named Carl Trudeau, and Mr. Trudeau is convinced the Court is not friendly enough. With judicial elections looming, he decides to try to purchase himself a seat on the Court. The cost is a few million dollars, a drop in the bucket for a billionaire like Mr. Trudeau. Through an intricate web of conspiracy and deceit, his political operatives recruit a young, unsuspecting candidate. They finance him, manipulate him, market him, and mold him into a potential Supreme Court justice. Their Supreme Court justice.
The Appeal is a powerful, timely, and shocking story of political and legal intrigue, a story that will leave listeners unable to think about our electoral process or judicial system in quite the same way ever again. more

*Yawn*, is it over yet?
I was extremely disappointed by this effort. I agree with the reviews that state Grisham basically threw something together, threw it against a wall just to see what would stick. Well, in my humble opinion, what stuck turned out quite odiferous! The only thing missing in this book was an Erin...

Money Over Quality
John Grisham has joined "club" of TOO MANY best selling authors who write good stuff up front but once they are KNOWN put out poor quality novels to statisfy a publisher's demand for another book + (most important) get big bucks for bad work.

Not quite Grisham's best
I loved this book with all the intertwined stories. However, Mr. Grisham left me hanging...did he want the reader to draw his/her own conclusions? I won't be specific about the way the book ended, but I was disappointed. Maybe I should listen to it again and see if I missed something.

yawn
it started out on an interesting note but soon petered out and by the end, I was depressed and no longer cared what happened. This is the first Grisham I'd read in years and will likely be the last. There are far better unsung writers out there.

Just ok.
I have not enjoyed this book like I have by few others written by JG. Relatively poor subject. Everyone who gains power is corrupt and middle and lower class of people gets screwed by the politicians.. what else is new?! Few moments are exciting, but that's about it.Hoping for better work by Mr....

Another strong social message from J Grisham
Another wonderful book by Grisham that makes you think about the interference of politics on justice and the consequences on the legal system and the people who become its victims. The cruel but unfortunately realistic end should make all of us think about the consequences of our political choices.

Okay, but he has done better..
I have loved almost everything Grisham has ever written- so I am sad to say this book was not what I would consider up to par for an author of his caliber. However, I am still a die-hard fan of his work.

No so much a novel as it is propaganda (even if it does make a good point)
I picked up a copy of "The Appeal" to make the 8 hours I had to wait in the airport go a little faster, and it served its purpose. The time went by quickly. I enjoyed the book very much. Then, I got home and decided to sit down and finish it, and that's where things got ugly. The end of this...

How disappointing
Looks like Grisham is now just putting words to paper for money. This is way too one-dimensional and predictable. The best thing I can say about it is that it might open some eyes of those who do not normally pay much attention to politics about how things work., But for anyone who reads the...

Not what I expected from John Grisham
I am a huge John Grisham fan, but this book was a big disappointment. The book has all of his usual twists and turns and pulls you in, but the ending had me looking for missing pages. The way he ended this book will leave you frustrated. I have yet to read one of his legal themed books that I...
