City Morning Song

Sarah Shannon, lead singer of '90s indie-rock darlings Velocity Girl, released her second solo album, City Morning Song, in February 2007. Although City Morning Song provides love songs in spades Shannon doesn't shy away from exploring darker subject matter. Loneliness, revenge, and obsessive love make appearances to offer a counterbalance. Shannon composed all 12 tracks with help from piano player Matt Perry on six. Producer Martin Feveyear (Mark Lanegan, Village Green, John Wesley Harding) frames these songs with earthy, analog warmth. Groovy laidback beats, warm piano, sweeping strings, and stately horns give these songs a timeless classic pop feel with the central feature of Shannon?s solo work, her voice, showing strong as ever. more
