The Back Passage

From: $4.21

Agatha Christie, move over! Hard-core sex and scandal meet in this brilliantly funny whodunit.
A seaside village, an English country house, a family of wealthy eccentrics and their equally peculiar servants, a determined detective — all the ingredients are here for a cozy Agatha Christie-style whodunit. But wait — Edward “Mitch” Mitchell is no Hercule Poirot, and The Back Passage is no Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Mitch is a handsome, insatiable 22-year-old hunk who never lets a clue stand in the way of a steamy encounter, whether it’s with the local constabulary, the house secretary, or his school chum and fellow athlete Boy Morgan, who becomes his Watson when they’re not busy boffing each other. When Reg Walworth is found dead in a cabinet, Sir James Eagle has his servant Weeks immediately arrested as the killer. But Mitch’s observant eye pegs more plausible possibilities: polysexual chauffeur Hibbert, queenly pervert Leonard Eagle, missing scion Rex, sadistic copper Kennington, even Sir James Eagle himself. Blackmail, police corruption, a dizzying network of spyholes and secret passages, watersports, and a nonstop queer orgy backstairs and everyplace else mark this hilariously hard-core mystery by a major new talent.

From: Amazon Posted: Aug 27, 2007 Type: User Review No, it's the Granta !

Yes, it's entertaining and yes it's arousing and thus fulfils its own brief. But ... oh dear Mr Lear, on page TWO you identify the river that flows through Cambridge as the Isis. It isn't. The Isis flows through Oxford. The "old" name of...

From: Amazon Posted: Aug 23, 2007 Type: User Review Slightly spacey writing

A light reading book, subjects and clues well placed, but not the most gripping language. The author has written better books, perhaps he needed a little more time to tune this one up.

From: Amazon Posted: Jun 04, 2007 Type: User Review Lots of Erotica but I Missed the Hilarity

The erotic sections are well written and read like I would imagine period erotica would read-- the erotic books I have are either Victorian The Pearl or Delta of Venus 1940's so I actually haven't read any pre World War II erotica.

From: Amazon Posted: May 12, 2007 Type: User Review Another perfect poolside book for Palm Springs

A delightful little novel provides sexual comedy embedded in well-turned phrases. A little gem--much like a Quad Venti Mocha in the middle of a drip-coffee day.

From: Amazon Posted: Apr 14, 2007 Type: User Review why must all things end badly?

I was really sorry about the ending of the book (the last 50 pages), clumsy, hurried, ill drafted: it clashes horribly with the other 150 of pure, unadulterate, well written fun.

Of course this is porn, gay porn by the way, but...

From: Amazon Posted: Apr 06, 2007 Type: User Review A THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE READ

As with previous reviews, there is a flavor of Agatha's books. The plot, while not the books strongest aspect, moves along well. For me there could have been a few less erotic scenes, however, I frequently found myself smiling at the humor. I...

From: Amazon Posted: Mar 25, 2007 Type: User Review I Absolutely Loved This Book

Usually I find that gay 'erotic' novels are a series of sex scenes built around a theme rather than being a 'novel' built around a story line. Lear manages to not only include a great range of very hot scenes, he does it totally in the context of...

From: Amazon Posted: Mar 20, 2007 Type: User Review Gay American hunk, seducer and crime solver

The hot summer of 1925, and a twenty-two year old randy Bostonian hunk, Edward "Mitch" Mitchell, in England following postgraduate studies at Cambridge, has been invited to Drekeham Hall, Norfolk, home of Sir James Eagle, MP, for the weekend by...

From: Amazon Posted: Mar 09, 2007 Type: User Review Good.

This book was GOOD. Good interesting characters, plot, and physical relations between men. The sex scenes read more like porn than literature, but that was one of the things that helped to make the book GOOD.

The book is a mystery...

From: Amazon Posted: Mar 08, 2007 Type: User Review Its a mystery.

Firstly, I don't really like mysteries. This one's allright though. Secondly, I don't usually like literature of any sort that is set in the early 20th century. Granted these two things, I still enjoyed the Back Passage. His narrating character is...
