Storm Front (The Dresden Files, Book 1)
Harry Dresden--Wizard Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he's the only at what he does. So when the Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the "everyday" world is actually full of strange and magical things--and most of them don't play too well with humans. That's where Harry comes in. Takes a wizard to catch a--well, whatever. There's just one problem. Business, to put it mildly, stinks. So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry's seeing dollar signs. But where there's magic, there's a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry's name. And that's when things start to get... interesting. Magic. It can get a guy killed.

Humor, Magic and Mayhem in the modern word
I got hooked on this series very quickly. It is not as fanciful as many books on wizards. This series is brutal, complicated and never without humor and surprises. The story takes place in modern Chicago and weaves the supernatural in with the mundane. As read the first book carefully as Mr....

Hated this book: Harry is stupid and annoying
I was only able to finish this book because I was so annoyed that I had already wasted my time reading half of it. It's impossible to respect Harry because he just bumbles around, talking to himself and breaking electronics and thinking he's going to die. I think there must have been at least 5...

The start of a seminal and fun urban fantasy series.
So, I have perhaps the advantage and disadvantage of writing this review after having read ten books in the Dresden Files series this excellent book spawned. First, to put this book in context, it fits inside the genre of urban fantasy (contemporary or other urban settings with magic and vampires...

Definitively a fun and easy read
I finished this book in just a day or two, which is very rare for me. I didn't think it was great, but I found myself attached to the story and liked the characters. I especially liked Harry Dresden. He was dirt broke since he didn't have much work. But yet, he was a powerful wizard. Aside...

Wow...
When I first picked this book up I wasn't sure what to expect. The book store clerk was fierce when exclaiming that I would LOVE this book and I simply have to say, I've fallen in love with this series. Fresh premise, Crisp writing, Witty dialogue, everything Rhiannon Frater wishes she could be....

True Mystery
The reason I think this book succeeds where many fantasy mysteries fail is because it throws us directly into a mystery that's a true whodunit, not a lineup of fanciful characters. Many fantasy mysteries are little better than "Weird Harold" exhibitions, parades of strange characters who do odd...

great
I have watch Dresden first season on DVD and it was great, but when I got the book it was far better than the DVD that I watch, it goes deeper into what Dresden does as a wizard and his fears.

Great first Novel
I love Jim Butcher. I honestly cannot remember a series of books that I have enjoyed more than I do the Dresden Files. Jim manages to mix three of my favorite genres into one series (Fantasy, Mystery, and Horror). Storm Front starts out quickly and moves at a great pace through the story. I...
