Great inspirational movie for children
This was a good movie and my family really enjoyed it. Although I was expecting the movie to have been for teens this is a very inspirational movie for all ages. KeKe Plamer did a great job as usual and the movie had a great cast. I just wish that this movie would get more play on tv. At a time...

Akeelah and the Bee
This is a great family movie. I watch it with my 6 year old Granddaughter fairly often. She likes Akeelah and that a lot of it takes place during/in school. I am however afraid that her watching it off and on for another few years is going to make her into a spelling bee type of child....

Wonderful Movie for All Ages. Very Inspiring
Fantastic movie to see again and again. This movie is not just about a spelling bee. It shows real people in everyday life and the emotional situations that we encounter and how to deal with them. The Peaceful Warrior is another that you can't turn off until it is finished, and extremely...

A Great Movie
This movie is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett deliver memorable performances. Keke Palmer is unforgettable as the title character. The script is uplifting. I use this movie in class to teach my reluctant readers.

How do you spell Pollyannaish?
There are two ways to look at this movie. It's better as a Disneyesque sugar-coated inspirational family movie, as long as the parents and kids watching it don't get too serious or go too deep analyzing it. There is one worthwhile lesson that can be gleaned: it takes hard work and dedicated...

Surprisingly well done!
I had avoided this movie! Particularly because Starbucks had it all over the place and they talked up how it was such a family film, etc. Usually, I find such films pretty smarmy when the advertising makes a great effort to get that point across. I finally saw it and have to say I am...

Perfect for adolescents
I bought two copies of Akeelah, one for my library and one for home. This is an excellent film for adults as well as adolescents, and the film to show any precocious preteen with an attitude that prevents achievement.
