The clock uses only one AA battery for power, and can be set automatically or manually. If the automatic setting is chosen, the internal antenna in the clock receives the time according to the atomic clock and the National Institute of Standards and Technology from up to 2,000 miles away through radio waves transmitted by WWVB. The time will also automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time unless programmed otherwise. At the bottom of the clock a thermometer notes the ambient temperature in Fahrenheit, ranging from forty degrees below zero to one hundred and twenty degrees. The black metal outer housing features flecks and stripes of gold and copper colored paint for an aged look.
