Simple Church: Returning to God's Process for Making Disciples

The simple revolution has begun. From the design of the iPod to the uncluttered Google home page, simple ideas are changing the world.

Simple Church clearly calls for Christians to return to the simple gospel-sharing methods of Jesus. No bells or whistles required, so to speak.

Based on case studies of four hundred American churches, authors Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger prove that the process for making disciples has quite often become too complex. Simple churches are thriving, and they are doing so by taking these four ideas to heart: Clarity. Movement. Alignment. Focus.

Each idea is examined here, simply showing why it is time to simplify.  more

Growth at What Cost?!

I did not personally read the book, but our church's leadership did. They also implemented the principles "taught" by Thom Rainer. Worship, Learning, Fellowship, Serving. The whole Sunday School program was revamped along with the home Bible Studies. Now we have age-graded "Learning Groups" and...

Keep it Simple

As the title suggests, this book is about getting "back to the basics" of church ministry and disciple-making. There seems to be a close correlation between biblical simplicity and effective church growth. This book emphasizes the importance of clarity, movement, alignment, and focus in church...

Only read for an example of how not to function

I read this book as an assignment. It is surprising how many pastors and church leaders who claim to be true to the Word are agreeing with the material in here. As a book about church planting, I was disappointed in the lack of scripture used throughout the book. When scripture was quoted, it...

Good for discussion

Great for church leaders to read and discuss. There are some really good ideas here, but also some tough questions that need to be asked of the authors' theories. Rather than taking a pragmatic approach to church, I would suggest a biblical approach, even if it's not all that "simple."

Thought Provoking - Short on Practical Application

I found Simple Church to be thought provoking and well-supported with statistics. The concept of a straightfoward strategy for a church is compelling in this day of over-programming. I would certainly recommend reading it as part of a broader study of strategic planning in a church. My only...
