Something Beautiful

The multi-Platinum band Great Big Sea has become one of Canada's most popular exports, and with the help of producer Michael Phillip (Barenaked Ladies), they're about to become even more popular with the release of Something Beautiful, their new studio album. From brisk Celtic pop sing-alongs like "Shines Right Through" and "When I Am King" to introspective, brooding laments like "Summer" and "Lucky Me," Something Beautiful is the most accessible Great Big Sea album yet. "Great Big Sea has been more successful than any other contemporary North American band in bringing Anglo-Celtic folk sounds into rock clubs." - Dirty Linen  more

Great CD

This is the 5th GBS CD I have purchased. I love it. There are fewer traditional songs, but that's ok because I also have Rant and Roar. Although it is mostly original material and a little 'poppier' sounding, it is still in keeping...

Love it, love it, love it

This is, hands down, my favorite Great Big Sea album. As a long-time fan who has always preferred their original songs to their traditional ones, this album just hits the spot. It's incredibly upbeat, fun to sing along to, and I never...

Change Isn't a Dirty Word

Agreed, there is a lack of traditional fare, but the rock feel of this album is far from unwelcome. To me, this is their strongest album to date. After all, you can only listen to sea shanties for so long before wanting variety...

Their name fits

Personally, I call them the "Goofy Newfies", because of their quirky humor and rocked out take on the trads. They're definitely back on their game with this CD. Could have stood a few more traditionals here, but "Something Beautiful"...

Still love them.....

Although this is my least favorite of their cd's to date, I absolutly still love Great Big Sea! The energy in their live performances exceeds any expectations. You cannot go to one of their concerts and have a bad time. Let it Go and...

A Great Big Disaster

I used to like Great Big Sea back in the days of the Play and Up (both of those albums are great, buy them instead), but "Something Beautiful" was just plain terrible. The first five songs are OK, only "Helmethead" and "Beat the Drum"...
