Pentax Normal SMCP-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Autofocus Lens - Black

From: $423.95

Pentax SMCP-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Autofocus Lens - Black Pentax S M C PF A 43 mm f/1.9 Limited Autofocus Lens Black The Pentax SMCP-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is a lens that is close to perfect in terms of focal length. In the 35mm format the ideal definition of a standard lens is 43mm, the distance from the corner to corner on a frame of 35mm film. The 43mm f/1.9 Limited Edition has robust construction for many years of use. Images are sharp and contrasty thanks to Pentax's Super Multi Coating process, which results in a high retention of light. An incredibly lightweight lens with wonderful results. At Smarter.com, we aim to ensure we give you the most sound buying advice possible. With our 'Cumulative Product Rating' system, in order for a product to receive a rating score, it must have a minimum number of ratings to qualify.

This system is not intended to diminish the value of products with a low number of ratings and reviews, they're great, and hopefully very helpful, but if you want our advice, we want to make sure that the product you're thinking of buying has been rated and reviewed by enough shoppers like you to be a valuable indicator of product quality.

From: Amazon Posted: Nov 06, 2007 Type: User Review Classic lens!

The 43mm Limited has a reputation as a diva - very very good but temperamental. I've only seen mostly the very very good bits so far. I did some adhoc comparisons (with not only other SLR lenses but with a Ricoh Diacord and a Kodak Retina IIa)...

I feel confident that this lens will in time become a classic. It screams quality! If you live in an area where top line Pentax lenses are hard to come by, speak to your local agent and get one in to shoot a role through your camera, and you will...

PROS: Absolutely a fantastic lens. It is sharp all the way through, especially sharp from F4- F11. The lens hood does a great job. Close focusing range. Images just seem to jump off the page at you, especially when using a shallow depth of field.
CONS: Like another reviewer, I managaed to strip the outer thread of a filter when putting the lens hood back in position with very little effort -(heliopan brand filter). Also, although it is a little pricey compared to standard 50mm lenses, in my case it will

PROS: Three hundred vacation pictures in Paris with the only dud caused by wrong film choice. Magnificent detail and color from bright sun to available light to flash. Perfect bokeh.
CONS: When the picture is wrong you cannot blaim the lense.

Did Pentax really intend this to be used, or merely as a collector's item? What camera is it supposed to match up with? The sturdy metal construction seems out of place on their plasticky SLR's, whether they are black or those with fake plastic...
