I upgraded from a 420EX to this 580EX II. I got it just in time for a wedding photo shoot, and I must say I was NOT disappointed. First, its battery life is outstanding. I shot shot more than 650 photos with the flash, most of them... read full review | report as inappropriate
This flash works a bit faster than the 550ex, but frankly couple things are wrong with it: master/slave switch - if you never use it, then no biggie, but I do and this is a PIA to change with the menu. MUCH prefer the old style... read full review | report as inappropriate

This is the first time I have ever purchased a dedicated flash. I have used the Superb Vivitar 283 and 285 strobes for years with no complaints. However, after buying the Nikon D70, I felt the need for a TTL flash. The camera's built-in pop-up... read full review | report as inappropriate

Jumped ship from a Canon 10D to a Nikon D2H. Bought the SB-800 as part of the package and all I can say is wow. Smaller and lighter than my Canon 550EX was. Exposures right on always , can't say that about the 10D 550EX combo read full review | report as inappropriate
The Nikon SB-800 is overpriced and an underperforming flash. Even as a seasoned professional, I can't read the manual, it doesn't make any sense. The flash in conjunction with the camera, can't even properly balance flash with ambient light! read full review | report as inappropriate
I've used this flash for a few jobs I've done indoors with poor lighting. I can easily say its the best, and most useful flash I've ever used. Its definitely worth the money. read full review | report as inappropriate

I agree with a lot of people about the "light quality" of this flash. It has a good light range (not long, but it is what I expected from this price). But I must warn you: it is EXTREMELLY SLOW recharging. I really did not know that the flash... read full review | report as inappropriate

I bought this because of its portability (it easiliy fits in my pocket), and because the lens I use on my Elan II will block the pop-flash with the lens hood on. Another main reason is that it is an E-TTL flash, which my 200E is not. I have used... read full review | report as inappropriate
