Seems to be a relatively good camera when working properly. I have also had significant compatibility issues with Vista, even when using firewire. Still picture quality is worse than expected. Sony support has been really bad....

Overall, this maybe be the best non-professional camcorder I've personally ever seen, maybe disconsidering only the gs-500, but I was still amazed by the picture quality, and specially, by the vivid and strong colors that the camera...

- The DCR-HC96 is an excellent camera.
I've used the DCR-HC96 as my second camera while shooting weddings. I haven't encountered any problems with this camera. My main camera is a Sony vx2100 which is a three chip camera. The DCR-HC96 is probably the best single chip camera...
