Artist: Norah Jones - (Audio CD) - 2002 ... more
Like a pair of old jeans, Norah Jones just makes you feel at home. Although she's signed to a jazz label, NJ is more Joni Mitchell than Nina Simone, and her voice, though raw and young, has a rich, refreshing honesty that seduces purely with its... read full review | report as inappropriate
Sounds more like warmed over Joni Mitchell or Shawn Colvin than Billie Holiday or Nina Simone. Jazz content is almost nil, despite being on Blue Note. The cover versions are well executed and show some promise, but the originals just aren't very... read full review | report as inappropriate
Norah Jones' First Sessions epee, available through the artist on the internet (...), was a minor miracle. Here was a singer who actually connected with and seemed part of her music. She swept you away in her private reverie. Sadly, that vibe... read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Robert Shaw Chamber Singers, Robert Shaw - (Audio CD) - 1994 ... more
If you only have one Christmas CD, this should be it. Disciplined voices with an ethereal quality in the sopranos. Carols and hymns from many nations and many times. A winner! read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Norah Jones - (Audio CD) - 2004 ... more
I was in the bathroom of this quaint little fish market with a converted restaurant when I first heard Norah's voice. I remember standing around in that humid little red bathroom through almost 3 tracks (not exactly good protocol on a date)... read full review | report as inappropriate
Norah Jones albums are like fast food burgers: engineered to be "tasty" to the masses so they'll sell in the gazillions. But that doesn't mean anyone gets nourished, or that connoisseurs should go anywhere near them. read full review | report as inappropriate
To say that Norah Jone's debut album 'Come Away With Me' was a breath of fresh air is an understatement. The bluesy-jazz influenced debut was a masterpiece, with critics and fans both appreciating the flawless material. Her deep, breathy &... read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Jack Johnson - (Audio CD) - 2003 ... more
Jack does it again! Another great, great album. This album starts out strong, with "The Horizon Has Been Defeated," "Taylor," "Gone," and "Cupid." However, it doesn't lose any steam. "Dreams be Dreams" is a great song. Rodeo Clowns is done a... read full review | report as inappropriate
Lots of old reworked songs here. Standouts are Taylor, Gone, Tomorrow Morning, Holes to Heaven. There are a few songs I found difficult to listen to...I think he could of made a more cohesive album by removing 4 or 5 of the 16 tracks. He's... read full review | report as inappropriate
I would like to preface this by saying that I like Jack Johnson and I love Brushfire Fairytales. That being said, I am a bit disappointed by this record. It sounds almost exactly the same as the last record, but it has less up-tempo songs. The... read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Ray LaMontagne - (Audio CD) - 2004 ... more
First and foremost this is a relaxed, sexy album. Possibly the best make-out album released since the mid to late 70s. There will inevitable comparison's of Lamontagne's style to Van Morrison. This is not a bad thing. Personally I would say he's... read full review | report as inappropriate
We call that white soul. Van Morrison being the King, in my opinion. It's a mix of soul music and folk music. Many people mentionned Otis Redding below. Well, no: Ray Lamontagne doesn't sound like Otis Redding, really, it's not the same voice.... read full review | report as inappropriate
Ray LaMontagne is not a genius. `Trouble' is, however, a reasonably good debut album. His music is listenable, but it is the same sound for ten tracks. By itself, any song on the album seems compelling, but when listened to in its entirety, the... read full review | report as inappropriate

Artist: J.J. Cale, Eric Clapton - (Audio CD) - 2006 ... more
This is a terrific CD! Ever since I heard the first single on radioplay, "Ride the River," I've been waiting to get my hands on the CD - and wasn't dissapointed. A really great retro sound - somewhat laid back, stripped down. ... read full review | report as inappropriate
I wasn't sure what to expect from this collaborative CD, but it turns out to be a lot less than what it could've been. I think that neither Clapton nor Cale would be quite who they are today without the other guy, so the links between their... read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Various Artists - (Audio CD) - 1997 ... more
This is an excellent combination of popular/alternative artists, singing a mix of traditional and new songs. read full review | report as inappropriate
This is definitely for a younger crowd. Not your traditional sounding songs. I love to listen to all kinds of Christmas music but I have a hard time listening to this from cover to cover. There are a few songs that are awesome, but I would only... read full review | report as inappropriate
As might be expected from this type of charity sampler, "Very Special Christmas 3" (like the other "Very Special Christmas" releases) does not hold together well as a unified album. Sheryl Crow's "Blue Christmas" is a highlight for me, as well as... read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: The Allman Brothers Band - (Audio CD) - 1991 ... more
There are just not enough good things that can be said about this album. This is yardstick against which all other rock & roll should be measured. The Allmans are at their best, and this is quite the quality album. It is rare when you can buy a... read full review | report as inappropriate
This CD is not the best of the Allman Brothers, but is an O.K. CD all the same. Unfortuantely, it focuses more on the post-Duane era than when the guitarist was with the band, and when their best material was produced. Instead, for a true best of... read full review | report as inappropriate
The quality of the recording could be better. Great tunes from a great band. read full review | report as inappropriate
Artist: Kenny Wayne Shepherd - (Audio CD) - 2007 ... more
I know it's a bit more cost-wise than a normal cd, but if you even remotely like the blues you really need to check this out. The music is incredible and the movie (unlike some dvd's attached to cd's) is fantastic. A great trip through history... read full review | report as inappropriate
Sorry, but this album is actually an album by Double Trouble featuring some old school blues greats propping up the player known as KWS. Where is the personality of this player? When will this player come clean and acknowledge his guitar teacher... read full review | report as inappropriate
On a scale of 1-10 I rate this a 7, It was not exactly what I thought it would be. The concept of honoring the "gray beards" of Blues was on the money but I wanted more uptempo from Kenny. Only a few cuts really highlited his guitar work.
