Sales pitch to buy his other books

The tips given in the 1st few chapters are worth going over. The tests are of very little if any value to help the reader. I hate the fact that he tells you only so much about a subject and leads you only to a reference of his other books so you must buy everything he has written to understand...

Great starter book

Tony Buzan's book is among the first books that got me started on speed reading when there wasn't much info about it going around.Although it's a good place to get started it's a little bit outdated. It will definitely help you improve your speeding skills.Especially for people that, like me, do...

Better products exist, this is old and incomplete

The copyright date is shown as 1991 but this is in fact a book from the 1970's. The information is very outdated, hard to follow, and much of it is simply wrong. You are better off going with a newer syste like Speed Reader-X which is also available through Amazon and includes software training...

Get an audio program in addition to this book

Like in all of his books, Tony Buzan reiterates his favorite assertions on mind mapping and mental abilities of a human. This book consists of history and the new developments of speed reading, self tests and exercises, mixed with short essays on physiologic aspects of reading, like left and right...

I might be out of step here, but I liked it.

I have several of Tony Buzan's books, and I appreciate his work very much. Although I don't believe that he is the only word in mind improvement, he has been extremely helpful to me.And this book was no exception. He covers what I feel to be important parts of reading speed improvement -- using...

A basis to start from

The book reviews common problems and techniques to overcome them in reading and comprehend a text at high and very high speed (words per minute), and presents a method (or better a bundle of methods) developed by the author and its collaborators: this method requires hard work and so the book is...

Very Dodgy Claims

Here is a piece of litigation that was successful regarding claims similar to the ones made in this book (reading over 1000wpm), photographic reading levels, etc.http://www.quackwatch.org/02ConsumerProtection/FTCActions/trudeau.htmlBest to stick with good old study methods (SQ3R) etc.Best...

Exercises for Dramatically Reducing Comprehension Level

The book is systematic, clear, quite concise, full of motivating examples, and full of practice exercises. It is an effective training technique. However, most of the info about reading potential is wrong, and it systematically trains you to miss important material. As far as has been measured...

dissapointing and uninformative

To begin, I think that it's important to note that Tony Buzan does not specialize in teaching Speed Reading. From what I can tell, he specializes in a technique he's coined called "Mind Mapping" which can be found in his other books: "Use Both Sides of Your Brain" and "Make the Most of Your...
