Sony HVL HIRL IR video light

Sony's HVL-HIRL video light serves two functions in one device. It works as an infrared NightShot light and 3-watt video light for Sony camcorders that fits easily as HotShoe accessory. The NightShot function works up to 23 feet, and the Super NightShot up to 66 feet. The light is powered by the camera battery, so it automatically shuts off when the handycam is put in standby mode. When it becomes dark, the HVL-HIRL has automatic and manual settings for variable light intensity. Light dimensions are 1.5 by 2.38 by 1.59 inches, and weight is 0.9 pounds. Also includes accessory pouch. Compatibility: Sony HC42, PC55, HC90, PC1000 and DVD 203 / 403 camcorders.  more

S'port mom

Works a charm. Very simple to use. Has been a large help in the dim situations where the infrared was not desired because of turning everything a "spooky movie green". Glad I found it.

Worth the money

This item is definately worth the price. The quality is great and it amazingly increased my night time capabilities. Although the light enhancement isn't that important and as great then the infared.Anyways, this item is great for its price.

Great Little Light

When I first saw this light, I was disappointed by its small size. But very quickly, I realized that being small is desirable. It's easier to handle and less intimidating to your subjects.I bought it mainly for its IR capability, which is quite good. You can light up anything in total...

Didn't even open it, just returning it.

This product is only compatable with AIS (Active Interface Shoe) technology equiped cameras. I have a Sony HDR-SR11 with AIS but you can only use one accessory at a time. Meaning you can't use an AIS light with an AIS microphone. I contacted Sony personally and was told that there are no...

Night Shot

Night Shot and Ir Light was as advertised. Video light and Night Shot gives you two lighting sources in one. It Has an Infra Red light which covers about 5 times more area than just the camcorder itself and an ordinary light which takes away shadows from close up face shots. It offers Sony...

Sony HVL-HIRL Night Shot

This light connects to the hot shoe of the Sony HDR-CX7. It contains both the visible light, and the IR light for night shooting. Its a great accessory, that I dont leave home without. You dont want to find yourself in a situation without enough light. The visible light itself provides a fair...

Nice little light.

It takes a little practice to put in on the camcorder, but once you do it a few times, you will have no problem.Runs off the camera battery so you don't have to worry about power for it. The Sony cameras have good low light performance so the regular light does a pretty good job. The night...

Good Video Light but very pricey

Im using this HVL HIRL video light with a Sony HC7. Nightshots do get enhanced brightness (though not very much brighter that the unaided HC7 nightshot capability). Having said that, I must admit that it illuminates a roughly 3 ft (1m) circle more of the surroundings than with an unaided HC7. The...

The Sony HVL-HIRL is awesome!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R119UAL7SOBZMN I'm a member of a paranormal investigation group so IR nightshot is a must. What came with my camera (Sony HDR-HC5) was good but not as good as it could be with this attachment. I can already tell a drastic increase in the night shot...

Versatile yet diminutive light

My first impression upon opening the box was that this light is quite small. I purchased it for use in wedding videography. It works well for short range (10-15') such as interviewing party guests. It's not intended to cover a long distance. The IR feature is a great extra. I also like the fact...
