At Smarter.com, we aim to ensure we give you the most sound buying advice possible. With our 'Cumulative Product Rating' system, in order for a product to receive a rating score, it must have a minimum number of ratings to qualify.
This system is not intended to diminish the value of products with a low number of ratings and reviews, they're great, and hopefully very helpful, but if you want our advice, we want to make sure that the product you're thinking of buying has been rated and reviewed by enough shoppers like you to be a valuable indicator of product quality.

Why NEVER to buy ONKYO
Purchased the TX-SR875 new from Amazon on Dec 12, 2007. On 17th of June 2008 the HDMI output failed. It was returned to the Onkyo DTR Service Center in Denver, CO and they received it July 1, 2008. They stated the expected turnaround time would...

Video processing not worth $$$, and hot
The 875 puts out great sound and has tons of features. But, I bought this unit in large part for the Reon video chip and was not impressed. It changed, but did not improve the picture compared to my new sony w4100 tv. I did tons of research and...

Good but some concerns
I have used my TX-SR875 for about seven months and have been very happy with the performance. I was concerned about the heat and have been using an external fan to create some additional cooling. However, the front panel LED display has failed...

Near perfect
The price and feature set makes this an excellent choice. Yes, it runs hot but not near as hot as others have experienced. I have it in a cabinet with an open front and back but no more than an 1.5 inches of clearance on the sides and top.

Great reciver for the price
Installation went smooth and once up and running it has worked great. I have my Wii, PS3, IPOD, and Time Warner cable box connected. Receiver does run hot but if you leave space above it will be fine. Overall a great receiver for the price.

Great Bang for the Buck
Well let me start this by saying that I am an extremely picky person when it comes to home audio. I have gone through a lot of different units in an atempt to find the perfect one. Before settling on the 875, I was in the world of separates, but...

ONKYO avr 875
it is a hot running piece of equipment, I sit a cooling fan on top and it cools the Onkyo by about 10 degrees, I can now touch the top of the case even on a hot 90-degree day, easy to hook up, manual and remote straight forward, good video for my...

Does not overheat, excellent receiver for the price
Whoever has been posting reviews claiming that this receiver runs way too hot, or even catches fire, is playing games. Yes it gets quite warm on top, it does put out 7 by 130 watts after all, but no more than normal for a high powered receiver. I...
